How long before it's run in?

My vRS has done just over 900 miles. The book says to run it in carefully up to 1500 miles. Is this the best thing to do, or should I leave it even longer? I'm going mad not being able to go above 3000 rpm!

A bit of tongue in cheek advice - After about 500 miles of fairly gently driving, I just caned it! Apparantly they benefit from it really! Mines not using much oil so I must have done something right!

I gave mine 500 miles. It now gets hammered. 12000 miles later it's going better than ever

I picked up my WRC last week.
It's moved between dealers showrooms since it was imported in 2001 and had 500Kms on it. I figured that since alot of people have driven it around on test drives and the like they didn't pay much attention to the running procedure so why should I?
Redlined in first and second leaving the show room and had that ESP light flashing on a daily basis . 1000Kms since and so far no problem. I've got a three year warranty so if anything does go wrong I'm not fussed.
I think it must surely be better to get things moving and keep them clean rather then snail along for 5000Kms allowing crap to build up in the rings and valves...

Fun car though, much better than the Porsche 928 I had before
