Induction Kit Disapointment

Well i fitted my fleabay induction kit this afternoon, and i have to say i was disappointed with the noise! I was expecting a real roar but you only hear anything when you blip the throttle from idle.. the DV however is much louder

Did anyone else find this??

I am also going to replace the filter that came with it for a better one.. its a bit cheap and nasty!

Re: Induction Kit Disapointment

I had a Carbonio CAI fitted on saturday with a Forge 007 DV at Awesome GTI. Wow the noise is amazing.

Re: Induction Kit Disapointment

I didn't think there was much more engine noise with the Carbonio, but there's a lot of air sucking sounds and the DV is MUCH louder

Re: Induction Kit Disapointment

If you get someone to drive your car past you, the sound is amazing. No as noticable in the car, very subtle inside.

Re: Induction Kit Disapointment

My mate on here, has one, not sure what he calls himself on here. Anyway, he kept the supplied filter on it, and months later claims that he can't hear it anymore. Hoping to grab the pipe off him when he gets bored, and stick my k&n on it, should be nice for the summer weather.

Re: Induction Kit Disapointment

Since fitting it I've had a bit of a hesitation at around 2000 rpm, and when going up hills at constant speed the car seems to get a little, er, confused somehow. Sucking in air then dumping the pressure - sounds a bit like Ivor the engine sometimes!

Does this sound normal or do I have a problem somewhere?

the problem you describe with hestation is the same problem I had with my 02 vrs just after I fitted my aftermarket filter, and it turned out to be two split hoses under the plastic engine cover, now replaced and back to former glory. coincidence? or maybe some subtle design fault along the line?

Re: Induction Kit Disapointment

Heres a quick clip we recorded after fitting the Carbonio too the car, but as side note now that I've had the car remapped and had a boost controller fitted the difference between the noise with vRS boost as standard and as mapped is like night and day. The clip is pre remap

Checked it a couple of nights ago - the Y-shaped hose in the right of this pic had come a little loose - I re-crimped the factory clip so it was tight again and it all seems much better now.

Having been in Phil's car I can confirm that this conbination sounds a lot nicer than the cheapo EBay thing which, was just loud/noisy rather than pleasant.

Yet another vote for the carbonio here too - installed it over the weekend and it sounds glorious! Well, as already said its actually more the recirc valve that you hear more but its a great bit of kit.

Oooh Carbonio
Sorry , you just knew I was going to come in with that
I love these and I must admit , my son has a different CAI on and it does not sound as good as the Carbonio , but hey he is pleased with it
I drove it down the street for him , and every time it had a little growl......mmmm

Re: Induction Kit Disapointment

I must be getting old or something. I thought the whole point of an induction kit was to increase the flow of air into the engine, thus allowing more fuel to be added to the mix. More fuel + more air = more power. Surely this is what you are all really trying to achieve and I'm all up for that. Any additional induction noise might be seen as a desirable side effect, but surely not a benefit?

You should also be wary of "cheap" airfilters because if they are letting more air through the chances are they are letting in a lot more dirt. Many companies advertise filters with improved air flow without letting in more rubbish, but I would be a little scepticle. Maybe the K&N's and Pipercross's of this world would be better at keeping out the dirt whilst improving airflo but you are paying a premium for this.

I guess this is all OK for the MaxPower readers amongst you driving around the block with you baseball caps on backwards but on long journeys excessive induction roar becomes wearing and intrusive.

I also have the old fleabay item, sounds ok but was not impressed with the fit. By the looks of it i will be going for the carbonio in a couple of months when I get some spare coin.

Re: Induction Kit Disapointment

Well i purchased a almost new Jetex filter from a jabba sport induction kit on ebay for a tenner and fitted that instead of the filter that came with the fleabay kit and its twice the size of the standard one!

And my god what a difference it has made.. the noise is amazing! the performance difference is even better.. that standard filter must be so restrictive!

My advice to all the people with ebay induction kits.. get rid of that filter and buy a better bigger one!

Absolute bargain!

The jetex filter is rated at about 220bhp.. and its huge compared to the ebay one! so imagine what the cheap crappy filter is rated at?
