*********induction kits - how good?*******

induction kits,

do they do much without other mods and more important, they seem to range from £70 to £300 the way i see it its a pipe with a filter on the end to get more cool air. Hoew much better (if any) are the expensive ones?

comments and advise please.

Re: *********induction kits - how good?*******

i have the BMC CDA on mine which retails at about £250 ish and works quite well, but gains over a standard inlet is probably marginal and only really needed if going for it with different turbo/exhaust/manifold etc etc

just get a remap for best money spent and forget about teh rest and it will do very little in comparison to a remap.

turbo back exhaust £5-600 and will gain 5bhp tops on a remapped car
inlet £250 and will gain maybe 3bhp or so if an uprated exhasut is present .
TIP £1-150 and will help the turbo spool slightly quicker but make no real difference to power
FMIC £5-800 and will not really gain you much in power but will allow you to keep that power in hot weather.
DV £75-125 will gain nothing but reliability.
remap £3-500 and can gain you 30-40bhp.

In my opinion(and i have done all the above and more) i would make the decision now really as to whether you want to go silly or not, if not then just get a remap and leave it or save up and do the turbo/exhasut/inlet/FMIC etc etc but remember that you will also need to do clutch and if going for 300+ you'll need to start thinking about gearboxes, diffs and internals.

Got a flea bay alloy pipe with a k&n filter on the end. Came to just over £100 but works well and sounds good. Have used k&n for years without probs, some people are against them here due to the oil on the filter itself.

thats only because they have suffered with knackered MAF's due to the oil.

i just went with a green panel filter and while i might have got 1-2bhp more (if i was lucky) i did notice that it was easier to revo over 5500rpm so was worth the money IMO

Re: *********induction kits - how good?*******

I went for a carbonio because of the good read ups on here.

I was only after the noise, not the gains.

Mmm
I must admit I would do the Carbonio if they did them for mine
The sound of them are FANTASTIC!!!! truely "Awesome"
With the CAI`s the filters are at the bottom so will get the cool air going in it
The Induction kits have filters inside the engine bay , but ducting is piped on to the filter
That is the differences between them
BHP gains will be slight , but throttle response is the main gain
I have the PD160 intake on my PD100 Fabia the response was extreamly good

I have a BMC CDA which is a CAI and the filter is in the engien bay but its in a carbon heat resistant airbox and it has a cold air feed going down into the bumper
