Instrument Failure

Hi,
Got a 99 slxi 1.9tdi (110) The instruments have failed (rev counter, speedo temp and fuel). They all work when ignition is first switched on then die! Problem started when closing drivers window then moved on to putting the blower on to 4 and they worked and finally yesterday going from side to main headlights cured it but now nothing!!

Any ideas.... Help!

Re: Instrument Failure

I hate to say it but mine has just done the same today. It's also an SLXtdi 1999 with 130000. I had also just started looking at replacing it which is the most annoying thing cause Idont want the expense of fixing it. The needles drop to zero readings then go back to normal and fault is repeated then ok again etc.

Any ideas?

Re: Instrument Failure

Usually dry joints on the board, a search on here might reveal some info.

Sorry I can't give you the exact thread

I followed some advice from others and removed fuse 15, the instruments now work okay but the digital display resets itself every time you turn the ignition on. Okay if your'e keeping it! Also this stops the lights on buzzer activating. Interestingly we've done a similar mileage I'm on 126k

regards
Ian

Re: Instrument Failure

Thanks Ian,
Like you I eventually found on the forum to remove fuse 15 and I have the same results as you. Working speedo etc but no memory for clock/trip which is annoying but easily lived with. The car's getting to the age where it isn't worth spending a lot on it but generally it goes very well I'm doing 500 to 600m week so in all honesty it doesn't owe me a lot.
