Dare I suggest LiverpoolVictoria - subject to your car being bog standard? Their cover is very good.

I am currently insured with them...

They don't go through DirectLine! Directline, Tesco Finance, and Privilege are all underwritten by UK Insurance Ltd, and each of them has a different target demographic, eg Tesco favour young drivers, Prilvilege favour performance cars, etc. Whenever I've asked for class 1 business use, it's always been added FOC to my policies (DL and Tesco).....

Try confused.com. I always check through them when my renewal arrives. This year for the first time they threw up quite a few cheaper than my LV renewal. On investigation only two were potentially better value the rest did not include legal expenses and their AD excesses were at least double LV's £150. I've stuck with LV because they throw in 180 days of EU cover as well.

BTW 1 this is for standard 2000 Audi A6 1.9 TDi. me and SWMBO driving, living in Rutland, both over 60, clean licences 10 years NCD protected for £265 premium.

BTW 2 have always found SAGA uncompetitive .

Thanks everyone for the input , i have now completed 15 quotations ( basis of NO Aaccidents full licence and max NCB with 20 k miles a year ) Highest Churchill at £ 502 Lowest at £330 with Budget . Allthe others vary between those figures all have a higher excess than mine at present and most do not provide a hire car for 14 days if car off road due to accident etc . So will stay with Direct line £345 . Does show that it is worth a check every year , here are some of the results .
AA £ 339 MORE THAN £415 LLOYDS £375 NORWICH UNION £364 FIRST ALTERNATIVE £473 ASDA £364 TESCO £357 ELEPHANT £450 CORINTHIAN £364 ADVANTAGE £375 AUTO DIRECT £375 SCREEN TRADE £352
Although some of them were close to my current , the main disadvantage was higher excess costs and lack of provision on courtesy or hire car if the worst happens . The only 3 factors i can see that would make a substantial difference are Post Code change , Reduction in miles per year , and NO 130 BHP .
Again thanks for your input . :

My dad tried saga a few years ago when he turned 50 and was not impressed with their quote. He went with direct line instead.

Don't waste your time with Saga when you do reach 50 - they were over 30% more expensive than the highest other quotes I got, and seemed surprised when I said I didn't want to accept their offer! And then I got a deluge of junk mail from them for the next 6 months (may have been longer but I moved!). Avoid like the plague. I'm with Churchill.

Was about to Renew with direct line , the finale quote was £365 , had a thought what if i do a check ONLINE with them , Surprised it comes up £30 less . Gave thyem a call to query this , responce , its cheaper if you take out a new policy on line because you get the discount , just cancel the Auto Renew . SO thats what i will do , seems daft to me but if they want to give me a lower quote why not take it . So anyone out there , check the online quote and you could save 10% with the same insurance company for a few hits of the old key board . .

Saga are a waste of time. My dad insured his car with them a few years back and his renewal premium seemed high. A few phone calls -not on internet then - knocked 30% off the premium with better cover.
