Interior light in Estate's boot?

Yes, this is about as stupid as questions come...

How the hell do I get those two lights in the luggage area/boot/trunk/whatever to stay on when the tailgate is open? As it is, they come on when I'm pulling on the handle or immediately after I've just closed the tailgate, but when I'm actually putting things in or out, or fiddling with the CD changer, they're off and I can't see a thing!

Where's the switch I need to flick?

Thanks in advance

Re: Interior light in Estate's boot?

I think the light switch is part of the boot lock mechanism, and that you have a problem with yours.

The thread below might help:

Okay, sounds worth a try... there's a switch or something underneath the trim by the main release, I'll look tomorrow.

It wasn't fun loading Xmas pressies in when I couldn't see a damn thing, I tells ya!

Re: Interior light in Estate's boot?

Had a look at it, there's a little switch that's part of the catch on the tailgate (the bit that goes in and locks it shut, I don't know what you'd call it) that, if I push it to the right, the lights come on... but as soon as I let go, they go back off. Probably a spring or something in there that needs reattaching to keep it held over when the door is open, I guess: no big deal.

Re: Interior light in Estate's boot?

I had the same problem with mine and after messing around for a while i found it is a little plastic gadget that slides onto a metal lever in the rear lock inside the tailgate that is broken. I havent bothered to ask the local dealer because they probably only stock the complete lock, and i tried to fix the old one with araldite and wire but there is so little room for it to move if you stick anything onto it, it jams so i fear it may need a new lock... Hope this helps
Cheers

Had the same problem on our Octy - the workshop said it had to be a complete new lock unit (fortunately under guarantee).
