Just signed up - hello to all Just purchased my new car (Octavia 1.8t VRS) and love it very much. I picked it up for £3795 on a Y plate with only 63k on the clock, i thinks i got a good deal i purchased it from Derek Slack Motors (Skoda) in Middlesbrough. I'll post pics shortly. Few questions though. 1. Can anyone recommend a good garage for a remap in the north-east? 2. Would it make much difference if i get stainless from the CAT back as opposed to the Turbo back? 3. Also in the north-east can anyone recommend a good garage for the stainless, i hear Powerflow are good in Darlington?

Re: Just signed up - hello to all Welcome to Briskoda. 1) Automark in Stokesley has a very good reputation, but you pay for it at £500ish IIRC. There is a Revo dealer in Darlington at the Golf centre... Revo get mixed reviews so it's worth doing a search and then you can make your own mind up. There is also a custom code dealer in Darlington, although I'm not exactly sure where. If you fancy travelling a little further, Bell Auto Services near York (Acaster Malbis) seem quite well respected on some other sites I use. I spoke to him and was put off by his lack of interest or enthusiasm, but I maybe caught him on a bad day! I know several people who have made the journey and have been very pleased. He's reasonably priced too. Bell Auto Services, B A S performance remaps chips and tuning for power and economy TD5 Vnt Turbo Conversion 2) A cat back exhaust may give a small benefit, but nothing like a turbo back system. 3) I'm not keen on powerflow. It's called Tyre Spot and is on McMullan road. I can't speak for their full custom exhausts but when I had my standard system re-fitted by them (I had to have one bend fabricated so had no option but to use them really), they didn't do a great job. I spent quite a while straightening things up afterwards. I have also heard that they use low grade stainless steel, but I can't say for certainly. There is another custom exhaust place in Darlington which I have heard good reports about. I went there to see about getting my Powerflow mess sorted out, they seemed very good and the quality of the work looked good. They were not cheap, though... Which is why I ended up sorting mine myself. I think if I was in the market for a custom exhaust then I would spend the extra and use them. Exhaustafix fast fit exhaust systems, Darlington, County Durham and North Yorkshire

Re: Just signed up - hello to all You won't notice much difference getting a cat back, worth it but it won't 'transform' the car. Turbo back makes more of a difference, but won't pass mot's/will fail roadside checks. Unless your new one has a higher flow cat, which will pass mot and be better flowing than stock. Nice car, welcome. Last edited by DGW; 14-07-2008 at 21:42. Reason: Redundant quote deleted.

Re: Just signed up - hello to all Hello and welcome As has been said , fantastic price there for the car I am going to have one of these when I get a bit older (ha , she wishes )Anyway , cat backs give some gains , but if you do the turbo back the gains are better The high flow sports cat will give better gains and if you go for a good one there will be no issues with the MOT The standard one has 400 cells , where as the sports ones have 200 , this allows for better flow and get rid of the gasses quicker These on the Octy is the same as the MK4 Golf 1.8T too and Seat Leon and the Audi A3 Hope that helps This is a great forum for advice Sarah

Re: Just signed up - hello to all Well guys and gals i was told powerflow were pretty good with remaps but have now done a little more research and found they are in fact crap so that being said i'm not going with powerflow anymore. However i have found a place kinda local to me that will do a rolling road before and after the remap and give all the print offs to show whats happened and what theyve done and on the bonus side ive had a mate use them and said hes never had a problem with there work and is extremely happy with his VRS. So i'm thinking i'm gonna use these guys but still looking about as im in no rush. The company is called VSport if anyones interested.

Re: Just signed up - hello to all Hi, I can highly reccomend Vsport for remapping work, they have more equipment than most and certainly have the knowledge to back it up. Dave is the guy to speak to there.
