Lambda sensor malfunction...

Hello,

Thought i'd scan my car cause I haven't done so for a good 2-3 months and came up with this beauty;

"16519 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor B1 S1: Heating Circtui Malfunction

P0135 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent."

I cleared it and turned the engine back on for a few minutes and it didn't reappear.

Hope it's nothing serious, about to start the engine conversion in the 205 and really don't have the spare cash!

Anyone come across this? Is the first sensor (I think the B1 S1 is before the cat) fried?

Re: Lambda sensor malfunction...

Yes thats the right sensor and it looks like the heating element has a problem with it, will require a new probe.

Re: Lambda sensor malfunction...

Awesome, anyone have a rough price on one of these?

Does it need to be done asap, or can it wait?

Re: Lambda sensor malfunction...

Aftermarket.... erk!

Anyone used them? Guessing that means it'll be £120 from the dealer...

Fed up. What are the implications of not changing it straight away?

Re: Lambda sensor malfunction...

Can this do any long term damage / any damage at all...

Infact, what difference will make if the first sensor is faulty?

£95 isn't too bad, wouldn't of known about the fault unless I ran vag-com....

Re: Lambda sensor malfunction...

Thanks mate.

Hmm, I've got a service coming up in about 4-5 weeks- wonder if I can wait until then. That way they'll probably fit it alot cheaper.

Then again, i'm doing about 250 miles a week at moment.

Maybe I'll go for a drive and see if the error code actually reappears....

Can I check lambda readings with vag-com?

Over fuelling can hurt your fuel economy, knacker your cat, and in severe cases give you bore wash issues.

Re: Lambda sensor malfunction...

Isn't that where the fuel strips the oil from the cylinder walls causing high wear of the piston rings and cylinder walls?

Re: Lambda sensor malfunction...

Well, i've done about 30 miles today and the error hasn't returned.

I'm concerned about the missfires though... although I'm guessing if they're not bringing up the engine management light they can't be TOO much to worry about.

Out of interest could someone else do a missfire log for me? Over say 10+ mins

I wonder if it's not that uncommon to get a missfire here and there.
