| Re: Little whistle! I was a turbo newbie when I got mine too. I believe the whistling is the turbo spooling up and is perfectly normal. The waste gate is the hissing sound (maybe a second) you can hear when you lift off the accelerator... its quite quiet when standard and you can usually only hear it when the stereos off and the windows are done up... I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong tho.

| Re: Little whistle! Good good, I read on a thread that it could be the turbo going! The noise from my is pretty quite though and sounds good imo. Trying to get used to the speed. I came from a 75bhp diesel... to say it's a upgrade is an understatement. |

| Re: Little whistle! I love it. Best car I've had but then looking at my history its not really saying much! The Fiesta ST I had was good fun but that was only when it was running properly and is no where near as practical as the Octy. Good Luck with it anyway. Hope it goes well for you.

Right guys the whistling is definately the turbo spooling up !!!! but the hiss/tssshhh noise for a second when coming of the accelerator is the re-circulating dump valve not the wastegate !!! the Octy vRS has one as standard. If you get a cold air induction kit you will hear the dump valve a bit more Ross | |

| Re: Little whistle! Just been quoted £270 for a cambelt and new water pump from an independent dealer. Going to ring up Skoda in a minute and see what they charge. |

| Re: Little whistle! £270 - make sure it's a full belt kit, and not just a belt for that money. Also take note that the official dealer will supply a plastic impellor water pump, where the independant may be replacing it with the superior metal impellor variety. On the other issue, everyone else is right; the whistle is the turbo spooling up. Never heard the wastegate going off on mine! Last edited by KenONeill; 06-06-2007 at 16:20. Reason: Speeling |

| Re: Little whistle! Ok, range a proper skoda dealer. £320. I'm tempted to take it to the skoda dealer, he said I could have a free car for the day whilst it's done and they'll also check the air con out for free and workout why it's not working for me. It's done 59k, I'm thinking skoda for the extra £50? |

| Re: Little whistle! Nah mate the dump valve is before the turbo and blows back into the air flow, the wastegate is in the turbo and i think it controls the boost iirc |

| Re: Little whistle! Aircon problem's likely to be one of 2 things - needs a regas or the compressor clutch has failed (maybe by unbolting itself). In the second case, take it to an aircon specialist, and save £ on the price of the parts alone! |
