| Mixing oils close to servicing time Sorry if this has been aired before, did a search but did not find anything. My 1.6 102bhp is due for its 20,000 service in about 3000 miles/3 months time, and the oil level is now at the bottom of the cross hatched area on the dipstick. It uses long life oil due to the long life servicing. The thing is, I bought a few 5 ltr bottles of Halfords semi synthetic when it was cheap a few years back (before I bought the Octy), and wondered if I could just top up with this, to save it going to waste, as I have no other use for it. Any views? SR |

| It will be fine to. You can use upto a litre of non specifc oil to get you by. Some oil is far better than none after all.

| Thanks for the advice lads, I just wanted to be sure there wouldn't be an adverse reaction like it losing all lubricational ability. |

| Nope - oil is oil, pretty much - just the long life stuff is, er, long life. Something to do with the residual ash content being very low and therefore the oil condition sensor being able to read the age of the oil correctly. Close to the service it doesn't matter so much but earlier on, the service intervals would come up prematurely (actually not premature, but according to the oil condition) |
