Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

I've never seen one without.

I wouldn't even think about driving a VRS without one bearing in mind how low the sump is on it. The plastic one is pretty useless but as said on the previous thread it stops sensors getting soaked and the alloy ones stops you needing a new sump every time you go over a crap road surface.

Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

Mine has one but it doesn't cover the sump. It bridges the gap between the front bumper and the sump. I was told by Skoda that all the petrol models came with this and the derv's have a full cover.

Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

I think the dealer is talking 8ollox. He is possibly confused with the metal sump guard for the Rozzer cars.

There are different ones for the petrol and diesel.

Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

My plastic undertray decided to break into several small chunks while driving along the motorway today. Where it wraps up and around the engine it was rubbing against the belts which had me slightly worried. My local Skoda dealer have quoted me £48 inc vat to supply and fit a new plastic cover, for now they have removed the tray. Is it needed and would you recommend I do replace it?

On a Vrs you only have the smaller undertray. They cost around £25 and are easy enough to fit if you jack the car up. The only problem I came across was feeling a bit dizzy when lying on my back and tilting my head backwards
I think they help with reducing road noise aswell so you will probably be better off with one than without

Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

Don't be mistaken the tray doesn't really cover much it only just sits behind the bumper really, then you have a big hole where the derv variant's cover would sit at a glance you would think you have no tray. I was very confused by this for a while till my chassis number confirmed that I only had the smaller one and not the whole shebang like the derv's do

Both my Octavia RS's had the plastic covers, and both have been pulled to bits on poor road surfaces, must order another one.

Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

guys

give up and do like me and get a steel one fitted

yes I have hit a few time but still a bit more reassuring than hitting the sump

on a side note you can have the fun of watching the dealer trying to fit the thing

Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

got mine done by the main dealer it was about £250 something fitted.

I have a feeling that it is the one that was standard fit on the 4x4 or it could be the police spec one. I know that it was not a problem to them to identify it and order in.

as I have said before the only downside is that you will catch it! but it is a bit cheaper than a new sum/engine

How easy is it to access the sump plug/oil filter with this fitted?

Not easy, it needs to be removed for service.

Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

Is removal (once it's been fitted the first time) a pain in the behind then?

Re: mk1 octy vrs engine undertray (again)

sorry guys been away for a week.

on the question of removing it. no it is just a few extra bolts to undo.

the painful bit is fitting the captive nuts to attach it to. for this you need a special tool I was told.

anyway I am glad I had it last week in scotland as hit it a couple of times with a real bang
