MK1 Octy Vrs Front suspension "twang"

When I put my steering on full lock I notice a load "twang" that sound like its coming from the drivers side front suspension spring. I haven't had the car up in the air yet , but I had a quick look under the arch and the spring still seems to be seated in the strut OK. Any idea's?

Roller bearing that allows the sping to move slightly when on full lock there are a few names for this part i think its about 10 pounds to buy and 2 hour job strut has to come out the rebuild sometimes they sieze or the bearings just brake up could also be broken spring but roller bearing most likely

Jack the car up today , and you're right - its a broken spring. Something else to add to the list of things to do.

The spring is definitely broken. While the leg is off I will replace the strut top bearings any way.
