Modifying Novice - CAI help

Havent got a clue when it come to modifying motors.

Is a CAI Kit easy to fit, is it a easy install. Bolt off bolt on jobbie ????
Does it make a big insurance premium rise when declaring it ????

Its my birthday in a few weeks and the lovely girlfriend is going to buy me one, been looking at:

eBay.co.uk: VELOCITY INTAKE SYSTEM 206 GTI CC LEON CUPRA OCTAVIA RS (item 160042609134 end time 29-Oct-06 21:48:13 GMT)

Carbonio Cold Air Intakes
Awesome GTI Store UK - Skoda Octavia

Only want to spend upto £180 but is it better to get it fitted proffesionally ????

I'm after the sound, not the performance increase really.

Cheers, Matt.

Fitting is straight forward although you may need to remove the bumper which you might not be comfortable doing.

The 2 kits you've linked to are both over your budget or am I missing something? (remember the prices on the Awesome website exclude VAT).

I'm not a fan of CAI's (see this thread: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/maint...p-valve/64354/ ) but if you really want one then my recommendation would be the ABD kit which is available from Impossible Performance.

Alternatively by one of the cheapo kits on ebay (not the one in your link) and replace the filter with a quality one from the likes or Green or K&N.

Re: Modifying Novice - CAI help

Hi, should be fairly straight forward, even for a novice, I fitted mine on my zx volcane. in about 1 hour.
wont give you a massive power boost (3-6 bhp maybe) & probably wont affect insurance too much. if this is the only mod.
will sound great though

Might be worth joining Freedom, as I think we might get discount at Awsome?

Quite prepared to be corrected on this if anyone knows better

Sorry a bit mis-leading, my girlfriends contribution for my birthday is £180, i would just put the extra in to make it up.

Removing the bumper, ehhhhhhhhh. not liking that idea. I would just like a bit more grunt on acceleration and i like that phhhhhhhhhssssss noise on acceeleration to, just wanting that louder.

Not sure the best way to achieve this, i was thinking the CAI would give me this.

Sorry to go on, could the extra money be spent better elsewere on my motor. 53 plate Octavia vRS ???

If you buy a CAI expecting a power increase you'll be dissapointed, the noise they make though is probably worth it if that's your thing. I'd save the money until you have enough for a remap as that will put a far bigger grin on your face than any other modification.

I agree with Goochie for agreeing with Eddy. Remap would be the most mod!

Re: Modifying Novice - CAI help

My prefered route (money permitting) would be:

Full Milltek exhaust
100 cel CAT
Downpipe
Remap
