looking at improving mpg on general daily running,
has anyone seen these, do they actually work?

seen on eBay for approx. £10 - bargain if it actually works!!

I suspect the only performance increase this gives is on the sellers car when then take your money and the money of several others and use it to buy something useful

A quick Google shows a few forums whereby there have been reports of them disintegrating and getting sucked into the engine.

Your choice.

Oh, and you're running a turbo'd car, complete waste of time in that case.

Your driving habits are an easier way of reducing fuel use tbh.

The dv won't make any difference either mate.

This is the point where I like to tell a story about an ex-neighbour of mine, some time head Police Mechanic for Dunbartonshire, and lecturer in car maintenance at the local FE centre.

He was asked what he thought of these sorts of fuel economy devices and replied "Oh they're great things. I know someone who fitted 10 of them, left here with half a tank of petrol and had it overflowing just before Carlisle!" Enough said?

These things are as pointless as the Ebay MAF resistors and the old classic "electric turbocharger".

As others have pointed out, drive more sympathetically if you want to save fuel.

I noticed these things only started appearing on ebay as fuel prices started to rise... obviously the people that sell these things know a good market when they see one!

Go easy on electric turbocharger, some recent Garret designs are electrically pre-spun turbochargers (so in effect supercharger-turbocharger design)

But that's not what you get on ebay :-)

Avoid useless devices as they will be a waste of money.
If you drive more relaxed and gain a few marginal mpg improvements thats pretty good.

My cars mpg according to what car is just above 40mpg and I'm getting 41-42 at times so I'm pleased.

Using stuff like injector cleaner once every 2/3 years will help too.

If you dont need the a/c turn it off
Keep tyres inflated at correct pressures
take out unnecessary weight and avoid driving with a roofbox/rails if you don't need them
Avoid harsh acceleration and harsh braking will give you more mpg but will also reduce wear on componants.

Keep away from eBAY stuff like that ,as said before a complete waste of money and time getting it fitted

Iv got a Forge SplitR and TBH my fuel consumption hasnt changed,i did a run after fitting and got a 39.9mpg (could of got more mpg but i was getting bored)

Iv just got back from Weymouth,with two kiddies in the back and a boot full of luggage and pushchairs (good boot in the octy!) i was averaging between 36 - 38mpg at speeds on the motorway between 70 and 90mph

So not too bad,better than i was expecting

But eBAY gadgets and gizmos? dont even entertain mate,their not worth it

your figures have put me at ease though as generally i seem to get around 37mpg including motorway driving and a boot full of crap!
