Nasty rattling traced...

For a few weeks now, I've had a nasty rattling and graunching noise coming from under the car. This has grown increasingly alarming, so I finally managed to get it seen to by the dealer.

They've just called, and apparently the intake pipe to the intercooler had become detached. Presumably the loose end was rattling about and making all the noise.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is the "intake pipe" the feed from the turbocharger, or is it something else?

Sure sounds like it to me - have you had any boost lately?

That's interesting. Did you notice any loss of power, or was the hose simply loose somewhere along its run (ie not detached from the IC)?

Yes, which is why their explanation sounds strange. Boost has been fine. I suppose I'll find out when I get the car back later today.

Well, everything seemed fine when I collected the car. This morning, I was driving out of the carpark at my son's nursery, and heard a loud clanking. I'm a bit peeved to say the least.

Clanking traced and sorted! A loose exhaust bracket was rattling away. They've removed the clanky item and I'm waiting for parts so they can fit a new one. Anyone suffering strange undercar noises should check this as a possible cause.
