| Need advice on buying a VRS Hi all of you guys, After reading all the nice things about the VRS I decideed to buy me one. As I am still a student I can only afford a second hand one at the moment. This week I was out for a drive test with one from a local Skoda dealer, and I was quite impressed. I couldn't find much wrong about the car except some minor squeaking sound comming from a rear door, that the dealer said will fix, and some slightly dirty front seats, also beeing taken care of. What puzzles me more is a whirring sound when decelerating (can only be heard with the hood open) - dealer says it comes from the turbo and that it is okey... It happends maybe around 2000 rpm and it only lasts shortly.. like something virbating shortly. What do you think, is it really ok ? Should I check anything ? I would also apreciatte a lot, any other advices for checking other things before paying the money. (Tomorrow I am suppose to pick it up, after any last checks) Thanks ! |

| Hello! I bought a 2001 with 39000 on the clock. It's rock solid and a highly praised car.Not had any problems(coill packs changed before I had it) thats one thing you might want to ask the dealer. Sounds like a v good price! drive steady! |

| Squeaking might be the vertical piece of the back seat, In my car it sounded like the door but was actually the seat, they are fold down & they move on the fixing pin at the top, its easily fixed. As lozgti said, make sure the coil packs have been changed, these were a fault on virtually every Octy made & should have been changed under warranty, the new ones are fine. Apart from that I cant think of any common faults, they are a good solid car & just so much fun !!

| Thanks for the advices, about the coils I guess I have to get a spare one from the beginning, as only one was changed, but anyway I'll have to take that risk. And about beeing a student affording a VRS, I do work as an IT Freelancer for like 5 years. But what about the turbo whirring sound? Should I worry? |

| the turbo starts to spool at 2000rpm and should continue to create boost till about 6500rpm, this will make a hiss, whoosh or whirring sound which ever way you want to describe it.
