Exclamation New Octavia option - Petrol fountain!

Well, today I jacked up the Octavia to see if I could find the fluid leak I posted about on Friday.

The puddle diddnt seem as bad as it did in the dark on Thursday night and there were no signs of oil anywhere, so with the bonnet open, I cranked it over to see if it would pump out anywhere.

To my horror, there was a fountain of petrol spraying out.

At the back of the engine bay, near the brake fluid reservoir is a black plastic bracket affair with 3 hoses coming through it (attached to the inner wing, behind the coolant header tank) The rear one of these is from the petrol tank and has a 90 degree push fit connector on it. This had simply come loose. A firm push had it back in place and I couldnt remove it when I tried to test it

Considering how close it is to the turbo and associated pipework I think I had a very lucky escape.

If anyone can find the photos that were on here of the burned out Octavia let me know. I've searched but not found them.

There were photos on here a while ago of a similarly high mileage Octavia that had burned to a crisp after a suspected fuel leak.

Thinking about it I did say to SWMBO that I couldnt work out how I'd only got 265 miles from my last tank when I usually get 300+

If you have the time, take a look under your bonnet.

Re: New Octavia option - Petrol fountain!

Just to persuade others to check their hose connections...... this could have been my car:

Not saying the same hose caused this Octavia to burn, but the effects would have been the same.
