Re: new octy vrs more power

1.9 tdi 130bhp --> 2.0 tdi 140bhp = 10bhp increase over 0.1l
1.8t 180bhp --> 2.0t 200bhp = 20bhp increase over 0.2l

hmmm i see a pattern here lol

It is also an FSI engine - slightly different technology.

Re: new octy vrs more power

...but the Cupra R and TT had 225bhp from a 1.8, although the FSI is probably more smooth.

It just depends on the level of performance required by the VAG marketing dept and little to do with engineering...

Re: new octy vrs more power

Most if not all engines produced by VAG are more than capable of producing a lot more power than they eventaully get released with - it's inbuilt reliability and enables them to have different outputs and style of performance without having to use completely different engines.

Things like being EU4 compliant also have an effect -- that is why the 225 engine died - it's not EU4

So when you look , the fact that they manage to increase power and torque whilst reducing emmisions and improving economy is where it really counts.

Re: new octy vrs more power

assume its the same as the Golf Gti

AMD 2.0 FSI TURBO STAGE 1 ROLLING ROAD REMAP

ECU remap - to include rolling road time, before and after power and torque plots.
We firstly run through the mechanical side of the car to ensure all is safe to run, we then carry out a full rolling road power test to check the car makes standard numbers, once all is found to be well then we modify the engine soft ware to suit and finally test again on the rolling road. We can then produce full before and after graphs of your cars outputs verifying the gains.

REVO are claiming a hike to 262bhp/300+lbs/ft based on the VW Golf which has the same lump.

Re: new octy vrs more power

Its a 16v engine rather than a 20v, I would imagine its still a crossflow too. I beleive that Awesome have done some extensive research into the engine already as they have had a Mk5 Golf Gti for over a year now....maybe they hold the key.....

I guess its all about reliable power......

Re: new octy vrs more power

I've said it before, but controversially, 260+bhp in a front wheel drive car can't that useful in real world driving, yes, it will be faster but the traction issues would surely mean little improvement out of bends or at less than 80mph! When it's running sweet, even my APR'd car is a bit of a wheelspinning monster.

Would it not be better to just have a Quaife, rwd or 4x4 to make more use of the existing grunt? Having ridden in a mere 240bhp Impreza turbo, the power delivery was fantastic.

Re: new octy vrs more power

The power delivery from the new FSI engine is delivered differently to that of the old 1.8T and frankly is more than enough for everyday driving although it doesn't stop me from thinking about the extra whack in the back remap would give. For the time being I'm certainly not going to go down that route just yet..................................but I could be persuaded!

I understand that, hence my car being done.

I was just making the point that, beyond a certain level, more power in an Octavia may be a case of greatly diminishing returns and that better traction could be a better investment.
