I once bought a VW Polo from Motorpoint. It was cheaper than buying from a dealer. they don't include the price of road tax, and you also have to pay the registration fee (even though their cars are pre registrered). They also import a lot of their stock from Ireland, as the price of an Irish car is quite low to offset the heap of tax which Irish punters have to pay when they buy a new car (but which dealers don't have to pay)

When I came to trade it in for the Octy vRS, the Skoda salesman would only give me trade book price minus £1000 as it was imported from Ireland originally. Imported cars usually don't fetch the same amount come trade in time.

It's still a cheap way to get into a brand spanker though.....

Out of curiosity, what's the difference in spec from the UK model? I almost bought mine from motorpoint, but the dealer was only a couple of hundred above their price (I'd have paid more than the difference for the mats in the end!!)

From the haze of my fading memory, I think that the Irish spec cars have 16 inch alloys, aircon not climate, a sunroof and an armrest.

Could be wrong.

You won't get Skoda UK's 3rd year of warranty cover up to 60,000 miles nor the 3 year's full breakdown cover from the AA they also provide.

I bought my Octy vRS from Motorpoint just before Christmas price was £13100 on the road and included £250 for an extra years warranty to make it 3.

The car was imported from Malta. As far as I can tell it is the same spec as the UK Octy, 17" wheels, climate control, 6 cd boot changer, 180bhp. Itdoesn't have a sunroof or armrest, it does however have ESP and rear parking sensors which would cost another £600 in extras.

If the Octy advertised at motorpoint for £11999 has the extras then it would be the best deal around. The only problem you would have is when you come to sell it, but if like me you intend keeping the car for a few years the extra depreciation will be negligable.
