No remap upgrades.

I have not, nor am I planning to, get a remap done on my Octy 1.8T, however I was wondering if there are any upgrades I should consider getting anyway, to replace the stock parts, on the Mk1 Octies that we consider worthwhile anyway?
Perhaps on the standard map there is no need to move from stock, but thought it was worth an ask around incase there is anything I can change to improve performance/handling.

Re: No remap upgrades.

Well, the standard Bosch diverter valves fail quite frequently so you might consider changing that for a more robust version ... but apart from that I can't think of much.

Suspension? Brakes?

Re: No remap upgrades.

I feel my brakes might be due some new pads anyway, so that might be an option worth looking into..

I dont think its worth changing anything if you're not going to remap.

I suggest FORGE 007p with yellow spring as a replacement for the stock Diverter valve.

That will achieve nothing but waste money though. The standard item costs significantly less.

He could, however, consider fitting cruise control.

Re: No remap upgrades.

Fit better brake pads on stock disks, put a new OEM diverter valve in and keep the old one as a spare and fit cruise control

Note I don't own a VRS.

Re: No remap upgrades.

maybe change the suspension and anti roll bars inc strut braces to inprove handling. upgrade the pads for ferodo DS2500's and run standard disks or black diamond cross drilled.

if your not going to even entertain a remap then changing engine components is a waste of money. although you could think about things like a green panel filter which will improve the breathing and filtration and reduce the need to replace the filter in future as they can be cleaned.

i'd think about changing the recirc valve as well, purely as a preventative maintainence action. the OE valve are cheap but do fail quite commonly so changing it for something that will last as long as the car is surely cost effective.

Re: No remap upgrades.

Green will let more dust through IMHO and requires oiling, so can be over oiled when cleaning and damage the MAF. Personally just change the paper ones every 5-10k.

Regarding the recirc valve, if an OEM one is £30 and an uprated one is £150 you can do it 5 times without incuring additional cost, and you don't have to mention it to the insurance as the part is OEM not a non standard engine component.

Re: No remap upgrades.

I personally wouldn't bother, however if you want some cheap performance upgrades and never intend to remap then you could change the N75 to a J or H model for a bit more boost, smooth the airbox, fit a cold feed pipe and panel filter. Also if you can get hold of a vagcom cable you can use lemmiwinks or custom settings to increase the timing.

If the DV isn't broke don't bother replacing it unless you are going to a show where Forge have a stand then you can pick up a 007P cheap.

Other than that just get the best consumables you can e.g. brake pads, discs, tyres etc.. Also make sure everything is in good condition in particular the front wishbone bushes and rear axle bushes.

Re: No remap upgrades.

if you see fit to change the DV as a precaution, i can recommend this one, I've had one fitted for a while and very happy, piston valve, nothing to break - eBay.co.uk: VW Audi Seat 1.8T Re-Circulating Dump Valve - Blow Off (item 280079113601 end time 10-Feb-07 14:34:00 GMT)

I've seen them go for as little as £40. Best price price I've seen through regular sales is £75 but the norm is closer to £100.

Re: No remap upgrades.

Looks like I should concentrate on consumables then until I've built up the nerve to take it further I hope I made a descent start on this last year by sticking some Mich Alpines on for the Winter.. will have to start looking at 'summer' tyres soon though (I Hope!)
