Octavia Car Service (Newbie Qn)

Now this might be a really simple qn;

but I have a V reg Octavia, with 48k on the clock.

It's due a service (keeps on flashing me the message when I stick the keys in the ignition) and a good car friend of mine has said that I need:

1) Annual inspection

2) On top of that also look at getting oil changed and brake fluid change, looking at the coolant, possibly replacing the Alternator/Drive belt

3) Possibly go for the 20k inspection

I'm ringing round this week, but I just want to make sure that I'm not going to be ripped off/over charged.

Can any clever car people tell me how much 1, 2 and 3 will be? I assume that the 20k inspection is more than the annual inspection and includes all the bits that you get for the standard inspection?

Thanks

When was it last serviced , and do you know if it's on fixed or variable service intervals?

The annual service includes the oil change and will probably cost you about 250 quid.

You might be advised to get the cam belt changed , but that depends on if it;s been done before and what model of octavia it is

it was last serviced a year ago - how would I know if it's fixed or variable service?

250 quid? How much would the 20k service cost?
Roughly how much would a cam belt cost?

Can I go to anyone other than the Skoda dealer? Or is it recommended that I go to an official source?

Thanks

My 10,000, 20,000 and 50,000 mile services cost me the princely sum of £75 each. The 20,000, 40,000 and 60,000 cost £160 - £225 depending on what was done. You probably don't need the cambelt done yet. You can take the car anywhere you like as it's well out of warranty anyway, but that said Skoda dealers aren't too expensive and you don't know how the car's been treated before you got it.

If it's a V reg it'll almost certainly be on fixed servicing. 10 k intervals. You don't say what engine it is, but mostly they require the cam belt changed at either 60k or 80k. As Greg says, the even numbered services are more expensive than the odd, which are pretty much just oil changes. Your engine probably uses much cheaper oil than the fancy longlife stuff, so the service should be correspondingly cheaper.
