Octavia L&K estate 1.9tdi Can anyone tell me where the tailgate switch is? Mine seems have given up the ghostas the rear (boot area) courtesy lights have stopped working and the "door open" indicator does not show up with the tailgate open, which suggests it maybe the switch/connections. Any help appreciated. al@ovation99.plus.com

Re: Octavia L&K estate 1.9tdi Ours did the same two years ago - was told the whole lock (in the boot floor)would have to be replaced - which it was, under guarantee, and solved the problem. Now the lights come on fine but the "door open" symbol shows in the dashboard until you give the tailgate an almighty slam. Reported it at the annual service last December and was told NFF. It's still a problem, but we're trading in for an Octy II and thre salesman wasn't a bit concerned about the sticking light warning - maybe they've got a quick fix?

Re: Octavia L&K estate 1.9tdi Hmm. Mine does the exact opposite with the boot lights often coming on without any warning when driving along and this is accompanied by the door open warning flicking on and off, despite the door being very firmly shut. I suspect the sensor in the lock assembly may be the cause of both versions of this problem. AL Is the sensor jammed in the close position hence no lights or dashboard warning? may be worth spraying the lock with some WD40? For my car I think the solution will be to marginally reposition the striker plate so the integral sensor is more fully depressed. Does anyone know whether the sensor unit can be replaced without the expense of replacing the whole lock assembly? Skimad4x4

Re: Octavia L&K estate 1.9tdi Thanks for all the replies.Have decided to have a look today(if it's not too cold). There is a plastic flap on the base of the tailgate where the hook/striker plate resides. Is it possible that the sensor/switch sits underneath this, or is it definitely in the lock mechanism itself?

Re: Octavia L&K estate 1.9tdi On the estate, there is nothing under there.... - I took off the plastic trim when fitting my towbar..... Infact on mine, the two little spring loaded plastic flaps have fallen off. One before I bought the car, the other I have, sans-spring!
