Re: octavia poor mpg about 24, you are doing well on short trips. The box doesn't lock up till you get to extra urban speeds and the 1.8t is cammed too high to be efficient at low speeds. By the way what V8 have you driven that does 27 round town? Because I may like to buy it. The 1.8T has similar grunt to a 3.0 litre car, certainly a 2.5 in auto mode. economy seems similar though I agree it's not good. Maybe the later DSG ones are better.

Re: octavia poor mpg ![]() That said, if you've done over 50_000 miles, it might be a good idea to get the transmission fluid changed. It's not in the Skoda schedule, but is an official recommendation from ZF transmissions. Also, get a garage to do it; it's worth it to avoid the nasty smell of used ATF!! ![]()

Re: octavia poor mpg If he has the 01M, that isn't a ZF trans afik but fully agree about getting fluid changed. The fluid is real bad if you analyse it at 80k and they break around 80-140k typically. If garage does it make sure they flush it repeatedly, not just drain the pan. The line pressure (Kerma) mod & of course a new trans filter is recomended, do NOT change out the oil without changing the filter. I did mine when I got it and run Valvoline fully synthetic fluid (not VW fluid, it's not fully synthetic and more expensive) whcih they state is suitable and the box is noticably better all round, especially the line pressure mod, much firmer shifts. I hard code to sports mode too, found hesitating and too low shift points in adaptive or economy. Greg.

Re: octavia poor mpg Cheers Greg. I didn't mean to imply that that car had a ZF; just to supply my highly authoritative source for making the suggestion.
