How important is the plastic engine undertray on an Octavia? Mine has just fallen off

And how much is a new one

Haven't had one on for over year since it got damaged at the dealers.

Probably has some very slight air-dynamic bonus for having one.... also on the diesel it is meant to help to step the reflection of the engine sound off the road, iirc

They also stop some sensors around the bottom of the engine bay getting covered in salt water.

I'd say ifyou have VRS get an alloy one and if not get one from breakers yard.

I would take the opportunity to buy a sump guard. Or wait until I do and you can have my old tray

It looks to be £20 for a petrol and around £50 for a diesel one plus VAT.

I wouldn't want to run with it off too long as it keeps things nice and clean under there. The oil sensor sits right in the bottom of the sump and would cause you some right nause if it got water in the connector.

I havent got one, looks like the previous owner had it ripped off by a speed bump.

I don't think so. I think it's bigger than the white outline you've drawn. On the diesels at least the front edge clips over something in with the bumper, and then it goes right out to the plastic either side of the car and is held on with 10 small Torx screws around the edges. The plastic either side of it has got metal clips on its edges that the screws go into.

Fatty you can see the sensor I mentioned in your picture.

£125 is way over the top, are you sure they've not quoted you for the sump guard?

I was going to say the metal sump guard is approximately £200 fitted so £125 sounds like the metal one to me.

Well worth it is you are thinking of lowering the car at all or live in an area with rough roads etc.

How hard is it to fit the metal one?
Last time mine was in for service i was told that it had a big gouge in it and that another would be fatal

Metal one is a dealer job as it requires fitting some pressfit nuts or something.

I would say do it as a sump plus oil change will cost you more than the sump guard.

I have been lead to believe it is virtually a 2 man job to get the metal sump guards back on/off after they have been properly fitted - I guess due to the weight of the things....

yes i saw the sensor it was only 2 days ago when the tracking guy said to me "i think you should have some sort of panel under here " so i took the photo to check on here but matchmaker beat me to it

The diesel centre piece is about £72 plus the dreaded VAT ,side pieces are about £25 a side.Diesels were more popular due to Taxi drivers being Clagbank's main source of customer !!!!

The drivers side plastic piece on mine is cracked on the corner... but has been since I bought it, adn I have done something like 50k with it bust in about 18 months

Yeah the important thing is to make sure that all the sensors under the engine bay are not exposed to the salt water etc.
