Octavia Update

Got a new set of tyres (Please read thread 'What tyres and where?').

Got the car Supaguarded recently inside and out...looked really good. Recently it has been getting a bit grotty so I got all the 'Meguirs' car cleaning stuff (Microfibre polishing cloths and all). Started 7am this morning finished at 10.10am!!! I only washed, polished and waxed. I must admit it looks really nice now...it shines without swirls or smear...the products are good but the microfibre really made the difference.

Next week I will do the rubber trims, windows etc...maybe if I have the energy my coccyx bone was really hurting after it I must be getting old!!!

Waiting for my TomTom go 300 there is apparently there is a delay in the supply...

I have a couple of queries...When I first drove the car this morning after the wash, polish etc. It was really hesitant until it warmed up then it seemed okay...AM I LOOKING AT A MAJOR PROBLEM COMING MY WAY.

The other thing is I gave my brother-in-law a lift today...I'm not sure if he shut the doors properly but when I pressed the central locking button to lock everything up...it kept popping back up. Once he got out and shut the door I pressed the button again went for a bit of a drive and it seemed okay? WHAT IS THE SITUATION WITH THAT?

Other than that the car is brilliant I cannot wait to start tuning.

Thanks to all

Aaquil.

Spoke to one of the guys at 'Opie Oils' the other day regarding the Castrol GTX Magnatec put in my car when SKODA last serviced it. I never considered that oil to be good enough quality to put in any newish car let alone a turbocharged one.

Guy stated that although you can use Magnatec it is not a very good quality oil and will only last 5-6,000 miles rather than the 10,000 miles service schedule I'm on...I explained I wanted the best oil for my car within reason. So he is sending me some for Wed. I can't remember the name.

Oh yes I went to SKODA to get oil filter and the bung thingy on Saturday...I was amazed it was under £6!!! Subaru charged at least £12 for my old banger Legacy when I had it.

Getting the oil changed at a local Mechanic (nice guy called Ken at RE Performance Bury). Next Saturday.

Any more odd smells after spirited driving?

(apart from the passenger's underwear)

No more car smells...if any from underwear its being well concealed...still getting earache from SWMBO about the uncivilised driving.

Bengie send us some pics of the fitted brakes.

They look really good how's the braking now. What suspension set up have you got that look really low and nice.

I was just wondering my tyres are all at 32PSI as stated in another thread...handling seems better ride a little rougher. I have 205/55/16's Goodyear Eagle F1's (Softer compound apparently). Is that pressure okay or too much?

Thanks

Right...

Getting oil change done on Saturday. According to OPIE OILS who were very helpful CASTROL GTX MAGNATEC is okay to use on VAG cars but is quite a cheap, poor quality oil that will last 5-6,000 miles and as mine is a 1.8T I want good oil in as the oil cools and looks after the turbo. So I ordered some Silkolene 5W30 Fully synthetic ester based oil (RACE) - the oil came the very next day just as OPIE OILS said it would! Got myself a oil filter and 'bung' (only cost £5.66!!! Used to cost at least £12 with Subaru).

I hope I am not boring anyone I just thought that my experiences and trial and error may help others save some time and MONEY!!!

Thanks

Aaquil.

Out of interest why didn't you get some of the longlife oil from Skoda? Very good quality but a bit on the expensive side....around £56 for 5litres I think.

As for the hesistancy on starting.....let it idle until the revs drop to 1krpm before driving off...it won't do it then.

They didn't put longlife oil in!!! and besides why pay £56 when I can have Silkolene Pro Race oil for £37 which will be just as good if not better (no cheekiness/rudeness intended).

I think I'm on the Service every 10,000 miles...rather than variable.

Thanks for the idle advice...how long does that take?

Idle...ooo....about 30 secs to 1 minute...not very long.

Oil......interesting...may go down this route myself not cars out of warranty period....as long as it meets the required spec.
