| Hi everbody I`m already a skoda owner furby vrs and very happy. Here`s my problem the next car that I want is the ocy vrs but the dilemma I`ve got at the moment is either to get the earlier shaped vrs or wait for the new one to start getting discounted. I`m not in the proccess of immediatley wanting one, Is the earlier vrs easy to tune to 200 bhp or plus like the new model without affecting reliabilty or driveability, I know that the engine is the audi tt engine. Can you please tell me waht the car is like overall, driveability, reliabilty, performance and motorway cruising and anything else that I`ve forgotten etc inc space due to two kids and the best colour to get. Any help would be appreciated due to not knowing alot about the car. Thank you. critch Happy skoda owner wanting to be happier with another vrs ![]() |

| Re: Ocvtavia Vrs buying help The mkI vRS can be very easily tuned to 210 bhp with just a generic remap. With the addition of a turbo back exhaust, air filter and a custom remap you should see around 225 - 235 bhp. The driveability should be improved and as long as it does not run silly boost levels the reliability should be fine. Overall the standard vRS is a very capable car. Performance in a straight line is more than adequate - 0-62 mph in about 7.5 seconds, 0-100 mph in around 20-21 seconds. Handling is reasonable for a fairly heavy (1354kg) FWD car but if being critical, it understeers too readily and the standard dampers are on the soft side. The handling can be improved immeasurably by the addition of an uprated rear anti-roll bar (I have a Neuspeed 28mm adjustable one fitted) which will stiffen the rear end making the handling much more neutral. With the uprated ARB it is possible to 'steer' the car on the throttle. Motorway cruising is effortless with plenty of overtaking power available right through to silly speeds. mpg is ok with 35+ mpg being available on a long run (get one with cruise control if you do lots of motorway driving as it makes the task so much more relaxing) Reliability so far on mine has been good. I've had the odd niggling issues but nothing too serious. Space is very good, especially the boot space which will swallow many things with no problems. Rear leg room may be tight with the seats as far back as they will go but I can fit myself and 3 other adults in my car with no problems at all. Regarding colour - black looks stunning when clean (but it does not stay that way for long), silver looks understated and classy, yellow is for the extraverts amongst us and red ... just looks red The interior seats may be a pain to keep clean with young kids as the silver mesh inserts will not be very child friendly Basically the standard car is good but it could do with improvements: Turbo back exhaust - will improve the flat uninspiring sound of the 1.8T and give useful increases in mid range torque. Air filter - standard paper filter very restrictive at high rpm. Fit a green filter or K&N or ... to improve this Rear ARB - massive improvement in the handling - the car will corner flatter and understeer is almost eliminated. Standard headlight bulbs poor when driving on unlit roads - I have fitted some Philips Blue Vision bulbs which improve things no end. My next planned mods are some Koni FSD dampers and a custom remap. A long post, but hopefully this will help you in some way ![]()
