Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Hi there,

We've got a Octavia vRS WRC I think it's 81/100, we got it as a demo back in 2002 and have done 8,500 miles in it. But we are bored with it now, we want to get more power.

This is our list
  • 3" Downpipe
  • K&N Airfilter
  • Custom Code Remap

Is there anything else we could get that could get us close to 240bhp without changing the turbo? Bigger turbo inlet pipe?

Where can I buy just a downpipe? I can't seem to find a bigger downpipe with either 2.5" or 3" without having to buy a sportscat.

If there is anything else we can do to this car to make it more powerful, more responsive or handle any quicker please reply with some advice!

Standard downpipe and cat are a single unit hence why replacements normally come with both.

Ah, I see. Makes sense, I guess I should have asked a mechanic.

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

That said you should be able to get a downpipe and cat separately.

You can definately get the cats separately.....decat downpipes probably are longer or have cat replacement section.
Supersprint definately do a downpipe without a cat...I reckon Blueflame probably do one as well.

One thing though...will a 3'' downpipe fit to the standard exhaust manifold and if it does, will any gains be offset by plumbing into the standard cat? Also remember you'll be going from a 3'[' bore to a 2'' bore so you'll have to get a reducer section.

samco do one piece silicon TIP's, not sure there's any point in changing just the downpipe and leaving the restrictive cat/system still there. only moving the bottle neck further down the line rather than removing it.

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Change it all,

and get an Induction Kit,FMIC,DV,TIP for the engine.

for the handling firstly get a Neuspeed Rear Anti-Roll bar and maybe some lowering springs depending on how far you want to go and how much money you have.

Also go for a full turbo back exhaust. No point just changing the down pipe as Bengie has already said.

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Cool. What gains could I expect to get if I get a full exhaust system, induction kit (cold air?), hypervalve, remap?

We'll buy springs and lower the car. Maybe get some 18" wheels and 235 section tyres to aid grip. We don't know what else to do with the car. If you have any suggestions let me know!

How far do you want to go in terms of power etc?

With what you've mentioned I reckon you'll get in the region of 230-235bhp...with an FMIC you ma reach 240-245bhp.

If you want more then you'll have to start planning for a bigger turbo.....all parts you may have bought for standard turbo would have to go...apart from FMIC, DV and perhaps induction kit.

If you want to do something now and then go for a big turbo I would suggest remap, dv and replacement cotten filter to reduce costs.....you should see in the region of 220bhp.

*Note: all my usual disclamiers apply.

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

i've seen cars on standard turbos making 240bhp or there about with CAI / Induction kit, replacement TIP (Samco or Forge), aftermarket recirc valve, turbo back exhaust and a custom remap + boost controller.

on numberous rolling roads Monkey Boys vRS made between 230 and 245bhp, i think the highest output he saw with the car was 246bhp.

coilovers or uprated arb's and springs will sort the handling.

dont forget the brakes... black diamond drilled disks and feredo ds2500 pads seem the favourite with super dot4 fluid.

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

What I've had done to mine is in the sig..........unlikely to get much more on the standard turbo without a FMIC as intake temps are pretty high. It's tuned more for midrange than top end though.

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Dont go with the K&N. Use whatever induction kit the briskodians recommend. K&N air filters use a special oil to catch dust particles, but oil particles also fly away from the filter and pile up on your MAF, eventually damaging it. Just MHO.

I run a green cotton filter on mine as do many others here - I have had no problems at all

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Before fitting my CAI, I always ran the K&N panel filter without a problem.
Just dab it lightly with a lint free cloth to absorb any excess oil when using it for the first time.
Also the secret is not too over oil them when cleaning.

the same goes for the green filters...

its one of the reasons i went for the Jabba Induction kit when i found out they developed it for the vRS... the oil used chages viscosity (SP?) when the filter is heated (which you can do with a hair dryer or oven) so it doesnt damage the MAF...

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Cool. I wanted a nice sound to it aswell as it's too quite. I don't want noises chav style, but we fitted a K&N to our MkIII Golf VR6 and it sounds like a V8, amazing!

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

The Milltek sports-cat is brilliant, not only does it give greater response but it still passes the all important MOT. The rest of the system is also a must have.
New K&N Typhoon is probably the best induction kit I've tried (Green & Ram-Air just don't cut it), has a throaty growl but not too loud.

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Hi,

Is the Miltek cat a specific bit of kit for the VRS, or is it a universal cat?

Also, where would the best place be to get a turbo-back exhaust including sports cat?

Thanks

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Milltek make specific range for VRs, the downpipe/sports-cat fits most VAG 1.8t and the rest of the system is direct fit. I bought mine from Roadrunner.
Its not the cheepest of systems but it works very well.

Re: Octavia vRS downpipe? + other stuff?

Try a BMC CDA box fantastic quality (6 times F1 champs in a row) all the advantages of a panel filter and ind kit combined without a drawback well apart from £180-190 quid

As for exhaust go for MIltec frt cat pipe with Supersprint mid / rear racing system for best exhaust combination for 18t range, nice and quiet normal driving
but opens out to a fantastic noise on heavy throttle.

you should see about 190-200hp before re-mapp with this type of mod
