Octavia vRS water pump. Advice Please.

The time has come to change the cambelt, water pump etc etc on the 1.8t vRS.

I have spoken with the ever helpful Kate at JKM and asked about the differences between the OEM water pump and the metal impeller one. They are happy to fit either at the same price!

The OEM one comes with a 2 year parts warrenty and the metal one, 1 year warrenty. Logic says get the OEM one as it's a genuine part with 2 year warrenty, however I don't if this is the best option.

What are peoples opinion on this? What has everyone else opted for?

Go for the metal impeller one

The plastic ones are not as good and can fail

Re: Octavia vRS water pump. Advice Please.

2 yr warranty is fine but they will tend to break after or around 4 yrs so warranty is in effect useless. Go metal and have peace of mind.

Re: Octavia vRS water pump. Advice Please.

Depends on how much mileage you do a year.

Would it need doing again in 2 years or not? I know they don't cost much either way but still its personal choice really

I think mine will be plastic as i asked for OEM when i had mine done 12 months ago but think it will be a metal one next time so i dont have to keep adding a new one every time

Re: Octavia vRS water pump. Advice Please.

I would put a new one in everytime anyway as the bearings still wear/seize.
Mine is plastic at mo too and vag have revised the pump many times so you would hope the probs sorted.

Re: Octavia vRS water pump. Advice Please.

Ive just odered a metal one as i put a post on a few days ago and i found most people said go metal as they are better and a few people have had bad luck with the plastic ones and when they break it can cost big money. they also posted some pics of plastic ones gone wrong!!!! lol

Re: Octavia vRS water pump. Advice Please.

It seems like a metel one then!

Thanks for all the opinions and advice. The car won't be doing loads of miles and therefore the pump should just need changing in 4 years time.

Re: Octavia vRS water pump. Advice Please.

Forget about the length of warranty anyway. The legal position is that you're entitled to have a replacement if the part fails within a "reasonable lifetime". There's plenty of doccumentation to show that a reasonable lifetime for a metal waterpump impellor is longer than that of a plastic one!
