Octy 1 vRS tyres

I made the mistake of buying cheap tyres last time - MOT was due and I was skint, so bought "Triangle Talons". They are wearing well - because they don't grip. At all. It's like driving on Teflon coated rubber. So, replacement is vital, before I end in a ditch. I am going to choose from three:

Toyo Proxes
Kumho Ecxtas
Falken

Opinions between the three please! 225/45/17.

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

Proxes are very good as are the FK-452s. If you have a bit more to spend the Eagle F1 Aysmmetrics are the best overall road tyre as proven by a few magazines now.

Traingle Talons indeed!

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

The Falkens are on a price freeze this year, which makes them very good value. Although because of that, there is limited supply in the UK, because as soon as they come in, they get snapped up....

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

I have Falken 452's on the front and F1's on the rear

I have found the 452's as good as the F1's if not better in the wet

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

I had the Toyo's on my old vrs and didn't think they deserved the praise they got or maybe it was just my driving style

Personally I would go for the Kuhmo's, have a set of 205/55/16's at the mo and they superb, even with the amount of rain we've had in the past few days the car still feels stable nipping up and down the motorway at the NSL.

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

I've just bought some Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics from mytyres.co.uk. All I have to do is get them fitted now....
They cost £87.50 delivered each if that's any help.

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

Thanks for the replies, guys. So far best local price is £72.00 fitted, etc, for Kuhmo KU31. Compares well with mail order.

My housemate bought a car in October with 4 of those on it, just fitted by the dealer. 8 weeks and one blowout later the car was looking pretty sorry for itself. Ironically he crashed Thursday on his way to Dublin - he was getting 4 decent tyres fitted on Saturday when he returned to Belfast.

I'd go the Falkens or you could go for Vredesteins. I'm running Vred Ultrac in 225-45-17, and they grip as well as the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics I also have on the car, and with 13k on them they've still got 4mm tread. The Goodyears are down to similar tread already and they're only on the back 6k...

The Goodyears are a major disapointment, they're noisy, they have wooly steering feel compared to the Vreds, and they wear as you watch. Considering they're a £98 tyre I wouldn't recommend them at all.

Continental Sport Contact Cs

Toyos are good too, but wear quicker in my experience.

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

I have in the last 6 months destroyed 2 FK452's and one goodyear. I'm saving to put PZero's Neros back on the car. I do a lot of back road driving and I never had an issue with the neros. I find the sidewall too thin on the others. Any thing hit them and they are destroyed.
Guess its the terrible roads we have here and maybe my fast driving

I agree, not tried the other 2 brands in your list but I will not be bothering with Toyo tyres ever again. People who like these tyres must never have experienced a truly good tyre.

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

One tyre I will recommend if you drive hard is the Yokohama AVS Sport. I had them on my old vrs and did more than 18k on them before I replaced them although they still had a fair bit of tread left, I only swapped them because I was selling the car and wanted top price for it.

These do take a while to warm through properly but you wont be dissapointed

Re: Octy 1 vRS tyres

f1 assymetrics have been very impressed so far however couldnt tell u anything on the wear front. The sport contact 2s i had on the front of mine lasted 12k but i never swapped front n rear over. At the end of the day new subber will always be better.
