Octy Bodyshell Query?

Just a quick question. Are all Octavia bodyshells the same? Obviously I can see the difference in between the Hatch & the Estate. But I am talking about the underpinings.
What I am wondering is do they all have a centre prop tunnel? Or are the Octys that are designed to take a 4x4 running gear have different bodies to take it?
The reason I ask is that I was looking on the Awesome website at the MkII Golf that has had a 4x4 system strapped underneath it, and it got me thinking of a 4x4 vRS.
Has this been done or would it be too much work. Easier to get a 4x4 Octy and transplant a different engine??????

Re: Octy Bodyshell Query?

It's been discussed before , and you would need to start with a 4*4 and add the VRS interior , bumpers and suitably lowered suspension. Once you remap the engine there will be very little difference between the 150bhp 4*4 and 180bhp vrs

Re: Octy Bodyshell Query?

On similar note, would it be possible to take an Octy 4 x 4 and put the Audi Quattro system on it? Hell you could go the whole hog and put the RS6 V8 into it would be an interesting project

Re: Octy Bodyshell Query?

don't think the V8 would ever fit, the 4x4 does use the quattro system anyway, the same system as the S3/TT.

because the V8 is longitudinal rather than transverse the front suspension will be completely different and not compatable, to do it you would need to have an A8 and chop the inside of the front end out to give you all the mounting point and space needed and probably do the same at the rear for the rear diff etc.

still don't think the RS6 V8 would fit in the engine bay though

Re: Octy Bodyshell Query?

forgot to answer the original question

the 4x4 has a different floor pan to the FWD octavias so sadly wouldn't be that easy, the rear suspension is completely different too.

Re: Octy Bodyshell Query?

Cheers,
Seems strange (and expensive) that a manufacturer would use two floor plans!
Like the idea of a RS6 V8 Octy though. I wouldn't say never on something like this, there are always some sort of Mad Scientist types out there with too much time on there hands, and access to power tools. I am sure that if you can cut 'n' shut a Ford Cosworth 4x4 engine and running gear into a R5 turbo shell you can do anything, remember seeing an escort cosworth with a small block chevy V8 & rwd

Re: Octy Bodyshell Query?

Sorry to take this OT but I've just realised you live in the same village as me!

An RS6 octy could be done but it'd be similar to the dahlback RS4 golf. e.g an RS4 Chassis with a modified Golf shell stuck on top. I've also seen this done with Mk2 golf shells on a porsche chassis. It's kinda cheating and is a bit like the shells you see on drag cars.

Re: Octy Bodyshell Query?

octavia doesnt use quattro like the RS6 .
The octavia and all the other golf based vag 4x4 cars ie transverse engined ones use a Haldex 4x4 system.
This is totally different to the quattro system on longitudinal engined cars like A4's RS4's Passats.
you can pretty uch stick any engine in any car the only limits are your skill or budjet.

What Bengie said is correct. The 4x4 uses the haldex system as found on the TT and S3 which is badged quattro on those models and 4-motion on the golf. Also Passats do use the same (Torsen) 4wd system as the A4 but again it's badged 4-motion on the VW variants.

Quattro is simply a badge name for 4wd and doesn't refer to a particular system of achieving it.
