Octy vRS Alarm?

Hi,

Just picked up an '03 Octy vRS and was wondering if they have an alarm as standard? I know it has got remote central locking and an immobiliser.

I'm hoping for an answer that doesn't involve me finding a remote part of the countryside and trying to set it off

If it doesn't have one what type seems to have the biggest effect on insurance premiums?

Cheers

It doesnt have one as standard.

Not having one will not make the insurance go up as premiums will be based on a standard non-alarmed car.

The upgrade that springs to mind is a cat2 to cat1 upgrade. The car has cat 2 security as standard. I had the Skoda accesory cat 2 ->1 (scorpion)upgrade fitted (£350-500ish IIRC 4 years ago) on my insurance it states "Security exceeds maufactures equipment" not sure what impact this has on my insurance cost.

as above on the standard system.

i went for a Sigma cat 1 upgrade system on mine think it was the M32, the system is used on all the Police Octavia's and Subaru use them in the Impreza from the factory.

it uses the standard Skoda keyfob to arm / disarm the system incorporating the factory central locking.

you get a keypad with the system as well that can be used to prgram extra options into the alarm. things like anti hijacked locking come as standard and can be activated. i dont use this though cause its not a problem for me to use the button on the drivers door console.

Thanks for the info everyone.

Nigel, don't suppose you can remember how much it cost to get your alarm fitted? I'd definately be looking to keep the Skoda key fob as I've already got more than enough stuff on my key ring.
Also, is this the sort of thing I should get fitted at a dealer or an independant specialist?

I've a Meta system on my vRS. Arms/disarms from the original keyfob and is Cat 1. I got it fitted by a local specialist - they took the car away for about three hours. Cost in the region of £200, IIRC.

i cant remember where i got it from but it was a Birmingham based supplier and fitter, they came out to me at work and fitted the system in a couple of hours. i think i paid in the region of £250-£300 all in may have been closer to £250 though.

memory's suffering now... i remember doing a search for Toad car alarms cause i'd used them in the past and fancied another one. Sigma own Toad apparently and the Sigma works better with the Skoda's dimming interior light, the supplier seemed to know his beans and said the Toad would activate the alarm when the dimmer went out or something.

I remember that the company that supplied and fitted mine also did west mids police octy's as well.

its worth doing a google search for Toad or Sigma alarms in the uk and finding the proper uk website then doing a search for the suppliers they use directly.

I've got a Cat1 clifford G5 on my RS. Hasn't made a difference to my insurance premium (although I'm sure most insurance companies do offer discount).

Cost about £600 fitted with all the extras. Touch wood, thieving scum have kept away from it so far.
