Octy vRS tight gear selection (reverse and 5th)

I have now put 1300 miles on my Octy vRS. I noticed on day 1 that it was not always easy to engage reverse and that has not overly bothered me. However, I have now noticed that the change into 5th can often be difficult too and certainly not as smooth as the other gear changes. It almost feels like I have to push the gearstick at a diagonal to engage 5th rather than using a dogleg gear change

On one occasion last night after doing a 3rd to 5th block change I found that it was very, very difficult to get out of 5th!

Has anyone else seen these problems? Any clues what could be wrong?

It is going into the dealership next week to have the squeeky brakes and boot catch looked at so I will probably have to get this looked at aswell

Reverse is typically difficult from new...does ease up with miles.

First can be a bit notchy but generally mine it fairly slick.....throw is quite long though and it doesn't like being rushed.

I think one or 2 people have had the gearbox oil change and that seemed to cure it.

Ask the garage to have a look at it when you're there.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Are there any disadvantages to using the thinner oil?

Why is the thinner oil not used as standard?

not really but tbh u need to be careful when your selecting the gears because when u put more miles on the car the gearbox will loosen so if u do shoddy gear changes you will put excess ware on the box......but should be trouble free...........................famous last words..lol

Have you also got the problem when changing into 5th? Have you had the thinner oil put in or are you seeing if things improve.

Cheers
Wayne
