Thumbs up Oil Change and which oil?

I was looking at getting an oil change on my 1.8T 4X4 and wanted some high quality oil any suggestion and places to buy. Also is the oil change straight forward or is there a specific technique? I know the question seems daft but the last Skoda I had within a week of getting an oil change done at an 'Independant Garage' the car finally gave up on me (after loads of other problems) and 'The Car People' finally gave me a refund (not full refund of course!!!).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Oil Change and which oil?

Whilst your down at the VAG garage getting your genuine oil filter Get yourself a 5L can of Synta Gold oil made by Quantum (its kinda budget VAG stuff) and its pretty darn cheap, also very good.

Re: Oil Change and which oil?

have you tried the website www.opieoils.co.uk, I bought some Fuchs Oil VW 507 00 specification for about £34 about 2 months ago, this is a fully synthetic oil, to the latest VAG specification, and was about a tenner cheaper tham the castrol variety at Halfrauds

Apparently Fuchs Oil work very closely with VAG and it is top notch oil.

Contact Opie oils if I was you, service is excellent, prices good, they will recommend an appropriate oil for you as well and give you a discount for being a Briskoda member

Re: Oil Change and which oil?

I need to do mine soon. I have the filter and oil ready
Silly question - how do you get to the filter to change it?
It looks like it'd be a sod to get out!

Re: Oil Change and which oil?

The Octavia is the easiest car I've ever changed oil for. The filter is in an easy to grab position. It may be on very tight though!

Good news - obviously not as bad as I thought. Presumably you grab it from underneath the car?

As you might have guessed this will be the first oil change I've done myself

Re: Oil Change and which oil?

I like the TDI oil filter position, looks to be a pull out drop in job on the top

I thought I was never going to get mine off the TDi - had to grip the plastic housing with a sandpaper and a chain wrench.... It had been done up by a monkey and his friend... twice!

Re: Oil Change and which oil?

Just ordered some of the Silkolene Pro S 5W-40 from Opie Oils spoke to both Simon and Guy. Polite, helpful and efficient the order took a matter of a few minutes. Defo recommend.

So how did you tighten it back up to the required torque?. My socket set didn't have the jumbo socket needed .

Pro-S is the best oil available at the price IMO - use the same in my cosworth sierra, track use included, and maintains hot pressure under the most arduous conditions.

I use Synta Gold in mine, also don't forget the sump plug washer (assuming you are doing the oil change the traditional way).
