Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual I've got one. Only used it for one job so far and it was a great help. Haynes manuals are not what they used to be but for the sake of £15-£20 they are well worth it IMO. Saved me a few sore knuckles yesterday. The pages are even thinner than they used to be though!

Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual Just got one, I guess it's a reasonably useful supplement for other (internet!) sources of info. Agree pages are like bog-roll, caught a fold in an index page already. Feels like it would dissolve if it got any oil on it! Not sure how comprehensive it is? Cover note: "Does not cover FSi or 4x4 models, or 1.4 8v or Tiptronic." & 2004- Info on my ASZ (PD130) engine seems a bit of an afterthought - cambelt change doesn't seem to mention need to 'time' injectors that I've read elsewhere? Is it vital - I don't know, that's for sure? ![]()

Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual Think i'll defo cough up and get one, at garage labour rates you dont need to do much yourself to be winning. Is there good info regarding removing door cards as one of my rear doors wont open from inside ![]()

The door-card removal section looks OK in the manual, plenty of pictures etc. Last edited by Kandy; 17-08-2006 at 12:50. | |

| Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual I have done a service on mine, most of which was straight forward. I changed the pollen and air filters, and wouldn't have figured out how to get at the pollen filter without it. It's a handy reference tool for the relative novice.

Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual Have checked the child locks and thats not it! Stoped working after an elderly relative used the chrome door latch to actually pull the door closed against the springs from fully open so i'm prety sure something is broken in the mechanism. Just need to find the time to get the door card out!

Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual Its ok. Helped with stripping my dads driver door down the other week, although most of it I could have done anyway. I'd certainly recommend it as, for the money, it is not really a major purchase and whilst its possible to search on the internet whilst working on a car I would rather not get oil and dirt on my laptop.

Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual I got the manual to check the cam belt change time on my 01 X octavia it says " cam belt should be checked at 60K, then every 20K and must be changed at 120K" has anyone had a cam belt last over 60K. Or will a garage service change it at 60K regardless.

Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual that sounds rather odd to me! My TDI's belt has just been changed at 60k in line with skodas schedule though i think some octys may be 40k(???). The haynes manual for my citroen zx suggests 36k rather than citroens 72k for the cambelt and 6 rather than 10k for oil changes.

Re: Opinions on Octavia Haynes Manual Any ideas as to why the petrol belt can last twice as long as for a diesel? Would have thought that the higher average RPM of the petrol would have warrented more frequent changes? Is the diesel belt under more load?
