| Hi! I hear a rattling noise while driving (especially on bad quality roads - we have a lot of it here in Hungary...) and I am pretty sure that it comes from the steering wheel. Is it safe to remove the airbag? If yes, then how should I do it? Do you have any ideas what can cause any noise in the steering wheel? Thanks Attila 2007 Octavia 1.8T Tour |

| It's more likely that a rattle comes from the front anti-roll bar (mounting bushes or droplinks), or radiator mountings. Check the ARB by bouncing the front of the car, and the radiator by trying to rock it. Next I'd check the column and steering rack mounts are all tight. If you've still not found your noise, then yes it's possible to DIY removing the airbag. Just take the following precautions when doing so:- 1) Disconnect the battery before doing anything else. 2) If you remove the airbag, store it sitting on the back plate. Everything else is just a matter of having the right spanners, screwdrivers and Torx drives for the fixings. |
