Question Rear electric window/central locking question

Hi, This is my first post

After having my escort rust away from me people said that i should get a skoda so i took their advice and got a 1998 octavia 1.6 and the car needs a new motor for the back passenger window, Is this a hard job to do or is it best to leave it to the garage.

Also the previous keeper disconnected the plug from the motor regulator to stop his young child getting hurt but the thing is the same back door dosent lock on the central locking and has to be manually locked.

If a new window motor was fitted and this white plug re-connected would this make the central locking on that door operational again?

Finally when its dark and the dash lights are on all the door electric windows iluminate red but the door that doesent have the working window dosent light up on the button, is this because the white plug has been disconected from the wndow regulator.

Thanks for the help on this...i dont want to fix the window put everything back together again and then find that the door still wont lock on the central locking.

Thanks again.

Justin

Reconnect the electrical plug, and that should sort the central locking and the switch lights.

Any idea why the previous owner didn't just press the "kiddy lockout" switch on the driver's door?

Are you absolutely sure it's a motor that is required? It is lot more common for the regulators to go than a motor, and at around a quarter of the price, cheaper as well.

The motor is built into the door control unit that controls what happens in that door. If disconnected everthing except for the speaker would not work.

thanks for the help, I needed the whole mechanism and motor for the window as the previous owner just left nothing in the door and just put a plank of wood to hold the window.

Anyway i fitted the window mec and motor and the electric window works but i cant control this window from the drivers side door and the central locking on the rear passenger door still dosent work.

When i have took the key out of the ignition the window stops working and the only way i can get it going again is to take the door trim off and unplug the connector and reconnect it and then it works (only on that door switch) not the drivers control unit and when they keys are out of the ignition for 2 mins it stop altogether.

Could it be that it isnt connected right at the drivers window control panel as something keeps stoping it from operating and if the windows shut (if left open) when you lock the car on the central locking is there a connection between the window circuit and the central locking circuits for each door.

Thanks again.

Afraid this is now beyond me. However, I think the previous owner was a rosset (anag).

I know its really doing my head in - its raining here so cant do anything at the moment.

On the octavia is the central locking seperate from the window electrics.

Its just a few niggly things then the car will be right - Thanks again

Not entirely. I think some of them have CANBUS electrics, and they can have window/sunroof close/open with the central locking.

In fact, I think you're heading to the point where checking a local trades directory for entries under "auto electrics" might be the best course.

It's possible that the door control unit that you got is not compatible with the others. What is the full part number of the one you have just got? and what is the full part number of the original unit on the other rear door?

They may look the same, but the software can be different.
