Default Rear wheel bearing - replacement costs?

I've just had a quote for changing both rear wheel bearings on the Octavia and nearly fallen off my chair!

Would you say £250+ is a bit steep?

I dunno what the rear bearing units are like compared to the fronts? I know I paid circa £80 for a single front wheel bearing unit, so thats £160 for materials alone. Not sure if the rears use the same one way hub nut too, I suspect not. Might be 1.5 / 2 hours labour too? So around £80-£100.

Think my rear ones may be on the verge of going (maybe just one) as I can hear some slight groaning from the back. Suspect its more likely to be road noise though.

I agree its too much, but that comes from me getting a sealed bearing for £45 delivered from "someone" and paying my mate cash to change it for me - around an hour.

I find it funny wheel-bearings die quick on Skoda cars. They should be able to last years. Guess that's another reliability issue.

I know the main dealer price for one FRONT is £110.79

EDIT: Dealer price for the rears is £191.98 each So it looks like the price of £249.10 for both seems reasonable

The bearings themselves are quite dear. SKF do them and thats what I fitted to our Octy vRS. Really easy to do though tbh mate, if you can get the bearings for the right money.

If you know the number on the bearing i would be glad to get you a price as we change bearings every day so we get excellent discount problem with a lot of these garages they pay £20 for the bearing and sell it for almost double the price .(where have i heard that one before oh yer my boss ).

I'm sure I paid about £45 for a front off side bearing. Fitting is fairly involved, I think for the front (about 1 hr).

Did you have Skoda parts fitted or from another source, eg QH?

But cheaper for the 4X4, I believe.

Nice to know its an easy enough job to get done at an independents. I wish all this talk of repairs wouldn't go on - I think I can hear a rumbling from the back of mine now which is very different to normal road noise. Shall be monitoring this as the rear bearings have done over 70k in total.

What parts did you use? (as already asked)
