| Briskodian | Rotate or not? Tyres that is... I've got Conti Sport Contact 2's on my Octy TDI, fitted as a set of four. The fronts are now at about 1/2 - 1/3 tread left. The rears are probably 1/3 worn. Should I rotate them front to rear? I guess, if I don't, then I will be replacing the fronts soon. ££ If I do, I will be replacing a complete set again later. ££££ I do about 2k - 3K a month, so tyres are a regular expense.

| Re: Rotate or not? Tyres that is... I always change in pairs. The fronts are obviously the ones that go quickest, so when they need changing I put the new tyres on the rear, and the old rears to the front. |

| Re: Rotate or not? Tyres that is... Only when the car's moving! ![]() Seriously, it's up to you, and I'd suggest making the decision based on whether you want to stick with the Contis, or fit something else. If you're happy with the Contis I'd leave it, and get the rears brought forward when replacing the fronts. If you want shot soonest safely, swap them now, and they should all wear out about the same time. |

| Re: Rotate or not? Tyres that is... I tend to not bother rotating tyres anymore and just replace them per axle, although I'm sure at some point they'll all wear out together and I'll be needing to get 4 done. I just put the new tyres on whichever axle the old ones came off ![]() Chris

| Briskodian | Re: Rotate or not? Tyres that is... Very interesting. I guess I need to convince the tyre place to swap the backs to the fronts and the new ones on the rear.

Seriously, I've seen film of one of these tests, and starting off by using a Vauxhall (Opel in the rest of Europe) Corsa (and yes I have driven one of these; works pool car or hire car) without ABS, and then only succeeding in getting it to spin by pushing hard into a corner and braking hard tells me lots about the "test" agenda, none of it good. Also you notice how they talk about how the newer tyres have a higher resistance to aquaplaning (and get the name of that wrong), but ignore how the front tyres actually dry out the road for the rears. | |
