| Hi, This is my first post on this forum, hope you can help me! I've seen a 2 owner, 2003 53 plate Octavia vRS Estate in black with 65k miles on the clock for £5500. It has a full service history and apart from a rather lot of stone chips seems in very good nick. Looking at ebay, autotrader, Parker's and WiseBuyer's Guides - used car prices, valuation, review, specs, guides, used car market report, the advertised and "book" prices seem to vary wildly! I was going to buy it but couldn't get an insurance quote sorted as it was a bank holiday weekend and it may have sold by now since he had reduced it to sell it. Is this a good price? It seems so, but the guy has admitted he's been struggling to sell it, and why do the prices seem to vary so much?! Cheers. |

| Welcome, Seems like a good price to me if it has a full sh. Just ensure that it has had the cam belt changed. ![]()

| Thats a very good price I think. As already mentioned, the cambelt should have been changed at the 60K service. You could have got an indicitive insurance quote from one of the many online services, and then if your current insurer didnt want to know, gone with the online quote instead.

| Thanks for you quick replys - he texted me this morning to say it hadn't been sold. The guy admitted he hadn't had the cambelt done at the last service, so I'm guessing from other postings on here that I'm looking at £500 ish if I have that done with a new water pump if one is required at the same time? Cheers. ![]() Last edited by Emeye; 29-05-2007 at 11:28. |

| I'd say it needs a new cambelt soonest. In fact I'd be trying to get him to chip the price a bit. As for the waterpump, change that too if it's a plastic impellor unit. |

| Cheers, Skoda want £475 inc. for the Cambelt and waterpump Awesome GTi (not too far from me) want £347 inc. Big difference! Still tempted, if I can sort the insurance and discuss the price, but wondering why it looks like it has been machine gunned with stones! Do these cars have soft paint? ![]() |

| Nope, VAG paint is very hard, but that means its brittle, hence the stone chips! ![]() |

| There are plenty of us would be happy to recommend Awesome for general VAG service work as well as the tuning and custom bodywork they've made their name on. With that price difference, it's a complete no-brainer! As for the stone-chipping, my Octy's 52 plate on 72_000, and has next to no chips. Some of the ones it has had were in the most bizzare places ( 2 on the roof just in front of the sunroof, and a big one on the tailgate at the base of the window). |

| How can these 2 site's prices be so different? They are both set for 30,000 miles. Skoda Octavia vRS 1.8T vRS Estate 5d Valuation - Parker's WiseBuyer's Guides - Skoda Octavia (1998-04) mileage adjusted used car prices ![]() |

| Parkers have always been way out. I'd go with the wisebuyers valuation, as they tend to take the current avg selling price on the market.

| Obviously, since you're buying, the Wisebuyer prices are right; if you were selling or arguing about an insurance payout, use Parkers! ![]() |

| I know i'm biased as i'm selling my estate at the moment but, the Wise buyer prices seem far to low Even trade-in prices seem about 2K off the correct pricing, anyone got a Glasses price? A local dealer offered £6800 for mine without any sale from him, (something about rae and easerly saleable )which looks slightly less than the parkers trade price, so in theory around glasses pricing.A quick look on Autotrader showed the lowest priced estate around 5K on a 53 but with 117,000 miles, ok the car can take it without to much probs , but if you adjusted wise buyer thats a £2900 car.....dream on ![]()

| I think Blanchie has it. Becucase it is a quick very practical car then they are always going to be in demand with the real value not reflecting book price for goods ones as people will pay for the good ones. When you look round there are not may quick estates out there unless you start to look at premum cars like audi's, bmw's, volvo's etc |
