Driving home earlier....

Looks like my brake pad warning light works....!!

Now the bad bit. I know my front disks are slightly warped, so should I change them and the pads at the same time? But I need to replace my shocks all round, and new tyres (front) as well. So what comes first, given that I have a limited flow of cash?

1. Pads
2. Shocks
3. Tyres
4. Disks

Re: Something that works on my Octy

i don't think its that simple, the tyres are 3 points each plus a fine possibly if they are under the legal limit and you get stopped. also tehy won't grip for love nor money in this bad weather.

so for it would be tyres, pads, discs, shocks in order of urgency and legality.

Re: Something that works on my Octy

Depending upon what funds allow i would say tyres, disks and pads ASAP.
Just done all disks and pads on my RS for about £100 from GSF. Then choice of tyres on top.
Would the tyres swap fron to back for a bit to give you a little breathing room?

OK, the "ping-ping-ping" thing, most likely means you've got (max) 1K miles left on the pads.
As the disks are shagged anyway, do as Bengie recommends.

Re: Something that works on my Octy

The front tyres probably have about 1mm above the legal marker, so ok for a few more thousand miles (if the weathers wet!). But given that my front shocks are a bit knackered, I wondered if I should replace them before the tyres, but I don't have any plans of driving the car in an illegal state.

I might do the disks and pads this weekend, and then hope for some birthday money do replace the front tyres a week or two later. Then shocks shortly after, and then I expect I'll be close to 120k miles so time to do the cambelt, pulleys and water pump.

You've still got a while on the Disk & Pad front.
Sort the shocks first. A decent set may cost a few bob !!! Do the tyres just befor the limit is reached. This way it don't crash the pocket all at once.

It'll all still going to cost the same in the end!

Re: Something that works on my Octy

Each tyre is 3 points and a £60 fine. If you already have points on your licence you will be summonsed to court for all three tyres and banned on the "Totting Up" procedure.

Baring in mind the weather, grip will be rubbish and you may end up slip-sliding around. So tyres need a look at!

Re: Something that works on my Octy

Tyres will hopefully be done on Mon/Tue, I'll have a look at the pads and determing quite how good/bad they are and then decide if I what to do next!
