| Briskodian | Speak rattle Hi guys, Just bought a 51 magic black vRS (mmmm). Problem is, when I turn the bass up a bit and have it at a decent volume I can hear a rattle / creak etc... Kind of annoying, anyone else had this? |

| Re: Speak rattle If its the standard system and you've got lots of bass then it might just be that the speakers can't handle it. The standard Octy Speakers are awful!

| Re: Speak rattle I had this, and found out that the owner before had placed the original speakers back in when he sold it to me, and the wires were just twisted together if that. I found that if I had the LOUD button on the stereo it would crackle, but if I turned it off, they would sound ok. |

| Re: Speak rattle I removed the door lining around the back of the speakers all together and have had no problems so far... fingers crossed... but I know some have had water leakage in the front footwells caused by this!

| Re: Speak rattle Get yourself a sub and filter the standard speakers for above 125Hz (e.g) only - that way you can cane the system nicely without risking getting leaky doors .Mine sounds just right with a custom 12" sub in the boot and a sony headunit. I thought I'd have to replace the stock speakers but they don't sound too bad when EQ'd properly on a better head unit IMHO.

| Briskodian | Re: Speak rattle How would the sub plug into the current system? I'm guessing I'd need an active sub... What sort of price are we talking? I'd be happy to keep the standard speakers and take the bass off and rely on the bass from teh sub. Sounds like a cheap / less hassle solution. This forum is great for quick replies too! ![]() |

| Re: Speak rattle Think you'd probably have to change the HU to add a sub... might be wrong tho as I seem to be that today! I'd have thought the sub would be a more expensive option as you'd need an amp unless you get the active system like your suggesting and then need to route the cable from the fron of the car and battery to the boot. You'd also need an equiliser / filter to process the sound to the standard front speakers. If you ask me, the best place to start is to change the fronts to something that can handle a bit more bass and then think about upgrading the HU to get the full benefit of the new speakers.

I built my own box to house a pioneer 12" bought for around the £70 mark and used a £50 300W ripspeed (yeah, I know ) amp to run it. This did all involve running a 10mm power feed right down from the battery and a set of audio leads also.My head unit has built in crossovers with seperate sub, front and rear outputs and there are customisable eq programs built in too. The filters are limited to 78 or 125Hz high or low but seem to do the job. I'd change the fronts if I: a) thought I could do it WITHOUT cutting away any membrane material - it's there for a reason and b)f I felt the improvement would be that significant. Granted that my entire setup would cost the best part of £1500 to buy new (including changers etc) but a half decent head unit and active or amped sub would probably see healthy improvements for under £500. You pays up and takes your choice I guess ![]()

Yeah i had a deal off the guy that used to sell me all the gear years ago he was rubbing his hands when i walked in the shop. He used to love me in my youth when i couldn't say no but all he got me to do was buy the better HU as i only wanted to spend £100 i think he knocked about £100 of the price for his old friend (mug) | |
