Stream Radio/CD in Octy MK1?

Does anybody know whether the Stream radio from the Octavia MKII will fit into the dashboard of my MK1 if I take the current headunit and the cubby hole underneath out?

I take it the Stream is 2xDIN size?

Thanks.

Re: Stream Radio/CD in Octy MK1?

I think the answer is no.

because the stream is not a square shape and I think but I may be wrong it might be bigger than din size

may I suggest if you want a double din and larger screen to have a look for a mfd satnav unit?

The stream also uses canbus, the octy mk1 does not so even if you could get it to fit, getting it working will be a whole different ball game.

Re: Stream Radio/CD in Octy MK1?

I am currently trying to fit the MP3 stream to a MK1 Octavia. No it would not fit the dash as it stands. I was thinking of getting a centre dash section from a breakers yard and trying to modify it to fit the stream.
I thought I would try out the stream unit first to check it works ok. The seller supplied me with the code and later also sent me the connector and part of the loom that plugs in to the the stream as the MK1 uses an ISO connector.

So as not to change my car loom bought a ISO connector female that plugs into the MK1 loom the wires that come from there are crimped to Stream plug. Only 2x +12v and ground plus speaker connections were connected.

The original stream loom has 2 red and white wires one marked "Safe" and the other "+ U B" both these wires are crimped together in the factory loom which seams very strange as would have expected one live from battery and the other via ignition.

When I switched on the stream asked for the code which I entered, I was then able to play a MP3 CD. I disconnected the stream to investigate how to remove the dash unit. when i refitted it asked for the code again, which i thought strange as with the original Symphony it never asks for it. Code entered again and all works OK.

Unit was later removed for more work but this time when reconnected it just says Safe and does nothing else. Check for 12v at both red/white wire all OK here. Left disconnected for a week in case it was a time out thing but still the same.

Now as the MK2 stream has a can bus could it be the case that all control is passed on the can bus and after code entered twice and no input from can bus unit stays in safe mode.

So unless someone more knowledgeable out there knows the answer I would say no it wont work.

And I am left with a MP3 stream that wont work for me and I don't know if it work in a MK2 with with can bus where it will fit straight in.

Re: Stream Radio/CD in Octy MK1?

As Mannyo said the MK II radios use canbus instead of the vanilla iso power system, so getting it working even if it fits would be a much bigger challenge if at all possible.
