| I appreciate that this has been talked about ad infinitum, but my Octavia VRS needs tyres all round. Bugger. Any definitive reccommendations? Would like to spend 75p but am realistically looking at £100/tyre. CheersTim |

| Pilot Exalto for good grip (I think) and reasonable wear rate. In my humble opinion they are also excellent in the wet. |

| I'm going to need some soon too I've noticed talk of fitting 225s to standard wheels. Are they worth fitting? Is traction or handling improved? Other than cost are there any disadvantages? Is wet grip reduced?

| Sorry if ia m being stupid, but how can you fit 225/45 to a standard rim that is less wide. I thought the 225 was the width and the 45 the height ratio. |

| 7" rim will fit 185 to 235 tyres on it. the flexibility of the sidewall allows a range of fitments. narrow tyres on wide rims give the "euro look" lots of vw owners go for.. the lower the profile of the tyre the harder it is to stretch the side wall to meet the rim... i ran 215/35 on 8.5" rims which was silly.. currently run 205/50 on 8" rims on the bmw... but the 50 profile is high enough to cope. wider tyres = more grip in general as you increase the contact patch.

Least thats what I thought on tyrebible. Of course there must be a difference between my bicycle tyres and an F1 car, hence I said almost equal... Actually it is, I can't bloody overtake moving cars either...

| I just had to change my NSR tyre, cost £74 for a p6000, phoned every number in yellow pages!! but when I got there, they checked the tracking told me it's 3mm out and wanted to charge £25 to adjust it! not a chance, 10 min job. Cheap tyres though. It was F1 tyres. |

| Are you telling me that you're getting 24,000 miles from front tyres on a VRS? |

![]() Cheers for the info. I may get a set of 225s (Toyo?) for the front then after the next pay day. What's the dreaded insurance position on fitting wider tyres?

| That would be very impressive or you have Miss Daisy in the back I have Conti contact sports on the front which are just past their useable limit so I am going to change to some cheap Asymetrical tyres up front. Are there any rules that state you shouldn't run a different width and profile on the front to the back? I know you shouldn't mix on the same axle...... Anyone?? |

| Don't think so. Some cars do have different tyres front/rear as standard

| I have just done some ringing around and found some Kuhmo Ecsta 712 205/50/17 93W for £72.85 all in. Apparently a quality tyre and the reviews all seem to be very good! |
