Default Unbiased Advice is sought

Hi

I currently have a 54 plate Fabia vRS, fitted with a dragon tuning box.I have been offered an Octy estate vRS (05, 860 mls, heaps of extras) in a part exchange deal, with £4000 changing hands for the octy.

Test drove it today and felt it was gutless compared to the fabia, but think this may be due to the low milage and way in which the car has been driven, ECU setup.

Need to give a quick decision (Fri) would appreciate any reasoned opinions.

Cheers

Thumbs down Re: Unbiased Advice is sought

I personally think this alot to pay £4k!!!!! Prices for Fabia is good,so i would think you could get £9k for yours then put £4-£4.5k to buy a nrand new MK1 Ocy Vrs either estate or hatch.
Don't go for that deal!

Not sure how unbiased I am but here goes....went from an octy 130 tdi pd so not that much different....dragon tuning box as well! to a Vrs estate...and yes it felt gutless, it did the job ...got to insane speeds really quickly ...but it didn't feel fast ....it was dare I say it boring ............and to top it off the mpg is terrible around town maybe 25 to 28 ...did get 44mpg on a long and drive to Cornwall, but nearly lost the will to live, next was the ground clearance, we found we couldn't visit some of friends anymore it wouldn't go up their drive pillow speed humps had to be avoided or taken with one side only going over them.........it's good car ....fun even sometimes but I swapped it in for a 130pd Superb ....now it has an AMD remap I have no intention of changing it for a while

If you want an estate why not try a pd 130 elegance octy if you can find one ....put a AMD one click on it and you have close to 180 bhp

I'm sure someone posted on here, not too long ago, saying that they had been offered a 'brand new' Octy 1 VRS for 12500 from a Skoda dealer.
I guess if you like the car, then push the dealer for a better deal.
Ring around the dealers, you might get a better price for a brand new VRS, as they will want then out of the way, ready for the MK2.

Thanks to all who replied, think you have put me off, and I'll just stick with my furby and run it into the ground.

Unless anyone can convince me otherwise!!!!!!!!!!!!

I done the very same thing a while back (remaped fuby vrs for octy vrs) and it was the biggest mistake ive made with cars. Dont get me wrong the Octy is a fantasic car and excellent for long distance drives but my first thought was "where the hell is the turbo", the car just didnt have the shove in the back that the furby had.

Now I know the octy is faster but sometimes when driving around town just the feeling of moving fast can be just as much fun.Couple that to the fact that the octy is much more expensive to run and insure then IMHO the furby is the better deal bang for buck.

You will defo notice the difference in fuel consumption after driving the diesel, It felt like I was spending more time in the petrol station than I did on the road.

Im now on my third diesel and i just cant see me buying a petrol car for a little while yet cos im to tight

Don't do it.If you really want an estate, get a low mileage new 1.9 or 2.0tdi for about £12-£13k.

Lovely cars, nice interior and plenty of go

I agree. The fuel costs as well are much more with the Octy. Having said that, I'd love a new Octy vRS !
