Question what replacement brakes?

the brakes are getting worn. I'm happy with the OEM setup, but are the discs and pads expensive from a VAG dealer?

What would be a good alternative for a reasonable price?
Cheers

Re: what replacement brakes?

I bought pagid pads and Zinnerman discs from GSF for my rears. £94 including the piston wind back tool @ £10.

They seem to be good so far, but only put 200 miles on them since they were fitted, got them on a recommendation from here.

My front are my next step. A good price to.

Re: what replacement brakes?

Have a look on Motorsport World - Performance Car Parts as well - had good service from them in the past.

I liked my Black Diamond setup on the Focus I had, have bought Brembo discs and Ferodo DS2500 from them before too. Some of the Mintex and Tarox stuff is supposed to be good as well....

Re: what replacement brakes?

Tarox G88 disc's all round with Tarox fast road pads and Silkolene 2000 Pro Race fluid.....Cannot fault it.

Black Diamond with Ferodo DS 2500 are also brilliant.

Brakes???....You get what you pay for, why skimp it ?????????

Re: what replacement brakes?

I've just contacted GSF, as I need to replace my front discs/pads and rear drums/shoes - gave them the VIN/Engine Number and they've told me I need discs for the rear - not drums. Well given that I was looking at them not less than 24hours ago and they were drums then - mutter mutter grumble grumble.

Don't supose anyone on here can tell me what I'm suppost to have. I can give VIN and Engine Number - or what the skoda part numbers are for them

Cheers

Re: what replacement brakes?

Front brakes are 280mm IIRC and they sell brembo discs and pads for the fronts.

I paid just under £150 for discs and pads all around so fronts should come up about £100 i think.

You could get a quote from the skoda dealer and ask them to write the part number or sizes down on the quote.

Re: what replacement brakes?

Looking around last night I found an old service print out from years ago when I had new front discs/pads - which gave me the part numbers 1J0615301E and 1J0698151G.

Now I've crossed reference that with some other info I have been sent - and the discc part number was the same, however the brake pads on this new info was
1J0698151J, and not 1J0698151G - is this just a later version which is backwards compatable?

Rear Drums/Shoes I have been given were 1J0609617B and 1J0698525 respectively.

Note these number haven' been supplied by a Skoda Dealer, so advice still welcomed.

Dave

Re: what replacement brakes?

Not sure you would be best asking GSF or somebody with a copy of EKTA.

IIRC it is probably just an alternative supplier.

Re: what replacement brakes?

Wouldn't bother with the Silkolene Pro Race fluid...tis very good but expensive. and not worth it if your not doing track work.

Castrol Response dot 4.1 (4 plus) is good enough for road plus a couple of track days. Cost approx half the Pro Race...IIRC.

Ferrodo DS2500 pads...approx £100 for the fronts...Demontweeks can supply and you shoudl get a discoutn for being a BRISKY member.

Discs....I got EBC groove from SEJOC....very good...and more than upto to the job for handling 300+bhp. Were approx £135 a few years back.
