What's fell off my car!!!

Driving along yesterday heard a loud clunk and saw something bouncing along the road behind me.

I retrived it and had a look under my car but couldnt see any damage and car was still running so wasnt sure if it was off my car or not!!!

Went home - car drove fine and had another look under car but still couldnt see any problems so presumed eveything was ok.

Car started ok this morning and was reversing out of my drive when I noticed another pit of metal on my drive.

Car still runs ok but would like to know what it is and should I still be driving my car!!

Part on right is bit that fell off when drving and looks mangled.

Part on left is off the driveway and looks largely intact!

Re: What's fell off my car!!!

That could be something to do with air con iirc.

I'm not 100% sure though sorry.

I'm guessing air con clutch pieces too.

Aircon clutch. Normally they just fall off, that looks a bit more broken than normal :-(

Open the bonnet, look down the front of the engine,(behind the radiator) on the left hand side under the alternator is the aircon compressor, the clutch fits on the front, IE the end with the drivebelt, next to the o/s inner wing.

NB not sure if you can get just the clutch mechanism? & how easy it would be to fit.
Might be best to PM Lummox for this advice (am sure he will know)

Re: What's fell off my car!!!

The aux drive belt will be travelling around the pulley assembly.

The thread for the clutch is probably knackered, and at worst you will need a new A/C pump. Have a search on here. I think that some people have manage to fix it without the need to replace the pump (and thus the coolant). It is one thing that has not yet fallen off my car.... A new pump I think is in the region of about £700-1000 :-(

Air con clutch. Look in your local Yellow Pages for Automotive Airconditioning specialists. They'll fix or replace for half or less what a Skoda dealer will charge.

Re: What's fell off my car!!!

Only had my Octy for nine months and from what I have read in these forums about bits and pieces dropping off I am beginning to think they are not such a good car. I have already had a window fall out. Feeling a bit disheartened now.

Have some perspective mate. What you're reading is sort of all of everybodies' problems. Remember that some of us haven't had problems ourselves; just hang around and help others with their's.

Re: What's fell off my car!!!

Yup. My wife's has had a couple of niggly faults (fixed thanks to Brisky) and mine hasn't had any probs to speak of! Don't forget, just like feedback forms, everyone who has a complaint will register it, whereas the ones who have had no problems are the silent majority!

And the main reason people seek out Briskoda is when they have a problem.

Re: What's fell off my car!!!

From 9 months experience, this is by far THE most unreliable car i have ever owned. I'm a little bit worried though as i'v not had to replace the aircon clutch yet. I'll let you know how much it costs to get the pump replaced as thats bound to be what mine will need soon.

Re: What's fell off my car!!!

Mine started off a little unreliable, turbo exchange, clutch (and then slave & master cylinders) - all around the 70k mark (previous owners!), but since then I have replaced all the shocks, and the disks, and I am now at 131k. And I had the classic wipers won;t work, caused by a corroded wiper linkage. Plus a few warm start issues, which were cured by cleaning the anti-shudder butterfly valve assembly.

Although the car has just developed its first "squeak" from inside the cabin... passenger rear side I think - must investigate. I know it is not the windows or the sunroof.

In general though, the car does what I ask of it, and in return I give it a service every 30k (long life/variable) - which works out approximately once a year.
