In general it's a very low cost modification to the vehicle , often done using stuff from B&Q.

More specifically they usually involve cutting holes in wheel arch liners and other bits of the car to get better airflow over the intercooler.

Won't make the car any faster when cold but it will help keep it cool and prevent heatsoak.

And doing so would also have a very bad effect - this unlike allowing hot air out of the car post-intercooling radiator

And above Pikey mods there is a new level of modding..

"Whore mods"

This involves convincing a tuning company or performance part supplier that in turn for you lending them your prized vehicle for development you get the parts either at cost of even better free

Sure..bring your car over!!
I've just started my own vehicle performance business, and have lots of things I'd like to try on your car. I'm going to start by running it on cheap Vodka, higher octane stuff than ordinary fuel...cheaper too! Next we'll try replacing the air filter for a pair of my mothers old tights for better air flow, then finally by cutting a hole in the carpet under the accelerator pedal this should allow for furhter accellerator pedal travel and a 4% increase in power. When do you want to drop your car off...?

...Seriously though...'Whore mods' are good if you can get them, but ermmm...don't come to me

In that case Col G is a prime whore-modder.

Oh, and what about a certain car YOU used to own? I get the feeling you're somewhat referring to that anyway with your smilie.

And Fabia's - I think for us its more about using the DIY market for mods, a la B&Q / Focus etc. Its also about getting one over on the OEM costlier alternatives.

For example I've no idea what (even if they do one?) a tin of vRS caliper paint would be - yet you can go into any DIY store and pick up a litre of smooth green hammerite, often for less than £10 - which does the job as nicely.

The pikey wheel arch venting trick is similar in that it uses DIY techniques to cut a hole in our (solid) arch and secure a vent from another VW group car in place to vent the sidemount intercooler.

There's a couple more I'm sure but its not really about (for us anyway) the likes of getting Ripspeed from Halfrauds - says he who has just bought a sheet of Ripspeed mesh from Halfrauds.

answer the blokes question propperly! lol pikey mod is where you get a wheel arche vent off a TT then fit it in your wheel arch behind your intercooler. also on a furby,( not sure about the octy) the grill around the fog light can be removed to also get more cold air over the intercooler. fog light, colder air in. TTvent hot ait out.

ive changed my mind. I quite like my car the way it is, so i think i'll shy away from "pikey mods". sounds all a bit too...
