whats the top speed on a standard VRs?

No e-willy waving please just interested in the top end on the vrs as ive always found parkers etc to be rather low in comparison to real top end on cars.

Remember the indicated speed will be higher than the actual speed.

Parkers say 146 for the hatch and 143 for the estate.

Hmmm, hopefully a remapped one should crack 150.

Re: whats the top speed on a standard VRs?

I can't think they would put a limiter on a car incapable of going faster than 155mph

Re: whats the top speed on a standard VRs?

The Technical Data booklet gives the maximum speed for the vRS Hatchback as 235 km/h (ie 146.03 mph) and the 0-100 km/h (0 - 62 mph) time as 7.9 seconds.. These performance figure were measured without the vehicle being fitted with any equipment such as air conditioning, mud flaps, which affect the performance.

Re: whats the top speed on a standard VRs?

To effect top spped you will need a lot more power IIRC for every 10mph you need power squared to overcome the aero drag.

Hence its vital to have a car with low drag in the first place to get a high top speed.

But in the real world who cares if it does 143 or 150 youd hardly tell the difference

I agree. When was the last time the M1 was clear enough to do more than 130 anyway?!

But the vRS is fairly low drag. Isn't that why the quoted top speed is higher than a similarly powered Golf? Same in the Mk 2

Re: whats the top speed on a standard VRs?

If you remember a few years back the Vauxhall Calibra was sold as the most Aerodynamic mass produced car with a drag coefficient of 0.26
The Mk1 Octavia hatch has a drag coefficient of 0.29, the estate 0.31.
although I guess that this was measured without mudflaps (Incidentally why do Octy VRSs come with only rear mudflaps fitted? I would have though both pairs or none at all??)
The Octavias slippery shape means that top end speed will be better than quite afew cars that have more power, especially rally designs that have downforce. I remember the Escort Cosworth had a top speed of 140 with the wing it needed for the rally boys, however as production rolled on and the wing was removed I think that car gained 10 mph or so top speed.

Yeah but there aren't any long straight roads - the place is so hilly and lumpy that most roads are all twisty and you can have fun without going over the limit.
