Re: Will fabia VRs gear **** fit an octavia stick?

I don't know if they are interchangable, but I can only assume that they are. Why would you want to do this though - as the Fabia is obviously 6 speed and the Octavia 5 speed...

Do I sense some "Jasonesque" improvements?

The gear **** is removed by lifting the gaitor surround aver the gear **** exposing a circular clip. This needs prising off which allows the **** to be removed.

The clip should be replaced, but I found a small jubilee clip a much better alternative to ensure the **** stays firm.

Re: Will fabia VRs gear **** fit an octavia stick?

Just be careful they dont try and select "6th" at high speed!! would result in a minimum of a trashed gearbox, and if the wheels lock even worse

Although i'm not sure thats true actually, on the 5 speed box, is reverse in the position 6th would be as on the Superb or on a dogleg next to 1st?

I suspect it's going to be mated to a 6-speed gearbox

Erm, that would suggest putting a 6 speed nob on a 5 speed gearbox wouldn't it?

Wasn't aware that the MK1 octavia came with a 6 speed box either.

Doh, just re-read some of the posts - what gearbox you putting in?

Make sure you fit a Quaife ATB diff at the same time, save ripping the car to bits twice, then you'll keep up with Bengie.

Re: Will fabia VRs gear **** fit an octavia stick?

Please dont take this the wrong way, i'm sure it is an excelent gearbox but -

Wont having an extra cog actually slow you down? i.e. it requires you to change gear more often as (I believe) the ratios are more closely matched to keep the engine in the 'power band'?

I suppose keeping in the 'power band' will obviously help but isn't it the whole changing gear thing that robs some pretty powerful cars of decent 0-60s due to having to go into 3rd?

Serious question, not knocking you at-all, genuinely want to know

I think this is similar to the diesel / petrol argument I was having recently where I said I dont have to change gear as often, someone said when racing a Fabia VRS they nearly rammed it everytime it changed gear, I said the same about when racing petrol cars in my PD Superb, The Fabia is 6 speed, but the Superb only has 5 so perhaps thats where it comes from?

I can accelerate from about 20mph all the way to 80mph in 3rd gear alone, this I believe is what enables me to keep up with some considerably more exotic cars!!

The fabia knob will fit, but the gater won't.
