wishbone bushes??

After a trip to JBS today they pointed out that the rear bush on both the front wishbones are split on my Octy.

Now i intend to point this out to my dealer but i suspect they will only replace them with the standard Skoda ones which by all accounts are rubbish.

Will there be any chance of getting them to replace the bushes under warranty but let me supply my own powerflex bushes???????

I really don't want the standard bushes fitting again.

My only other option is to pay someone to do the work which JBS quoted me £250

I am sure i read somewhere that the whole wishbone can be replaced easier than doing just the bushes as a DIY job. Is this the case and how much would the full wishbone be???

Cheers

Re: wishbone bushes??

i got whole genuine vag wishbone for £47.50 the other day got it fitted for £25 on the fiddle took him about 15 mins to do the one side
dealer quote £99 labour plus £56 for part plus vat
origanal bush is about a tenner but i'm told you need a tool to refit it aand it takes longer to do
so i suppose to fit uprated ones will cost quite a bit

Re: wishbone bushes??

Rob, you either need to bite the bullet and pay to have an uprated one fitted somewhere like Awesome, or just accept that Skoda will only refit a standard one. Getting an uprated one fitted under warrenty just isn't going to happen, unless you are very VERY friendly with the dealer or techy...

Re: wishbone bushes??

I am wondering about buying a new wishbones (about £40 ish quid each) getting some uprated bushes fitted to them and then fitting the wishbones myself??

Wonder if this may be the cheapest option????

Going to call some local garages and enquire how much they will charge to replace the front wishbone bushes.

Is it really not a DIY job to do the bushes? Powerflex's web site says their bushes are designed to be easy to fit but the old ones may be hard to remove? Is is the case that the difficulty is in removing the old ones an not fitting the new ones?

I have also noticed a creaking noise after braking when the car settles back on its suspension. Could this be related to the wishbone bushes???

Re: wishbone bushes??

Rob - Our Octavia does the same thing as yours and has had split bushes for the last 2 years - dont forget the creaking could be ARB drop links too.

I was planning on buying the wishbones from GSF in the spring and DIY'ing it. Any reason you dont want standard ones?

I am planning on keeping the car for at least two more years hopefully three. Unless my circumstances change significantly. Need to get the wife a new car next year and want something brand new for her and the kids instead of her 10 year old micra and i can't afford two new cars at once unfortunatley. Possibly considering more mods to try and get the power up to 230-250 bhp next year. The standard bushes are totally pants apparently so it seemed like a good idea. Also from what i have read on here the powerflex bushes make quite a difference to the feel/handling of the car.

How easy is it to change the full wishbone??

I intend to change my ARB drop links for the proper vRS ones to go with my vRS springs and dampers as i have been running around with the standard Elegance ones for the last year

Spoke to my dealer today and there is no way they will fit any bushes apart from Skoda's own. Fair enough i guess. They also will only replace the rear bushes on each wishbone if they have gone not both the bushes on each wishbone as is good practice, so i have been told.

Did get a quote from a local garage for doing both bushes on both front wishbones, £124 for the labour including re tracking and the VAT so it did not seem too bad to me.

A

I seem to be experiencing another problem that you are familiar with too. Boost loss. I had it a few times around this time last year then nothing til a couple of weeks ago and have now had it two or three times in as many weeks. It seems to be since the weather has got a bit colder and damper and only does it during my morning trip to work???

Did you solve this issue with your Octy and what did you do???

PM me if you like rather than changing tthis thread into something else.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrghghghghghghg, i think i have just changed my mind after all that and am going to get Skoda to do the bushes, as long as they do both bushes on each wishbone which is common sense if you ask me. Even if they only last 18 months then i have to fit full new wishbones as you have mentioned it will be more cost effective in the long run. My head hurts now

Re: wishbone bushes??

The standard bushes on mine were good enough for 70k miles - so they should be fine.

Changing the entire wishbone is actually pretty easy as the ball joint is fixed via a 3-bolt bracket which can be easily removed. The other end is pretty simple (so it looks, anyway)
